On average, a six is hit every 13 balls at the Chinnaswamy. That equates to about 18 sixes per match. This means that the Over/Under line is a bit short and we can take advantage of that.
We believe that RCB has the kind of batters that can get big runs once they are set. This includes Kohli, Maxwell, du Plessis, or even Green. Worth a punt for an 80% return at stake.
Two failures in a row for Maxwell make us hopeful that something big is around the corner. Maxwell has elevated his game in the last few months and is someone that is is never truly 'out of form'. One or two hits is all that it takes for him to get motoring.
The Royal Challengers Bangaluru will be taking on the Kolkata Knight Riders in what promises to be a highly charged contest. Why? Well, for anyone that follows the IPL, Virat Kohli vs Gautam Gambhir is a rivalry that refuses to end even though Gambhir has long retired.
Both teams are coming into this match on the back of a win and will be full of confidence. There are areas where both can improve as well as some clear weaknesses for the opposition to target.
The two teams have played against each other 33 times with 19 of those matches being won by KKR and 14 of those by RCB. Recent history has also been quite close with 5 wins for RCB out of the previous 9 matches. Interstingly, KKR has dominated RCB at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru with 8 wins out of the 12 matches played.
RCB vs KKR is available to stream on the Jio Cinema app and will also be broadcast on the Star Sports network of channels.
Virat Kohli proved that he has 'still got it' with a brilliant inning to help seal the chase for RCB. His inning and the heroics of the lower order have masked the weaknesses that RCB's batting has shown so far. Faf du plessis, Glenn Maxwell, and Cameron Green are all short of runs.
This is not a good space to be in going into an important match against KKR where spin will play a big role. RCB needs its overseas players to fire otherwise they may find themselves struggling to score freely. Rajat Patidar in the top order also looks quite out of form and RCB will have to judge whether he is a liability at a very important batting position.
The bowling lineup for RCB is good but it is not the greatest. Mohammad Siraj has not replicated his white ball success for India in the IPL. Also, Yash Dayal and Alzarri Joseph can be very expensive when they are out of form. Glenn maxwell, Chris Green, and Mayank Dagar form the rest of the bowling unit.
The Kolkata Knight Riders were rescued from a tough position by the absolutely blistering Andre Russell. Coming in to bat at a stage where KKR was struggling for runs, he smashed the ball all over the park and ended up taking them to a winning total.
Ramandeep Singh and Phil Salt also looked quite impressive during their cameos but players like Sunil Narine, Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Oyer, and Nitish Rana certainly did not. The two bouncer rule per over from this IPL could make life tougher for KKR's batting lineup as a number of its players are not very comfortable against the short ball.
The depth in the batting lineup is certainly decent on paper but how it translates on the pitch is another question.
The bowling lineup is led by Mitchell Starc who had a pretty poor outing in the previous match. Starc may not be white ball force he was at his peak but he is still an excellent bowler to have at all stages of the game. The standout bowlers were Sunil Narine and Harshit Rana.
Narine has had success against Kohli and du Plessis in the past. This match up could be very crucial to the outcome of the match.
The team that wins the toss is expected to field first. 5 out of the previous 9 matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium have been won by the team that has chased.
The weather forecast for match day in Bengaluru is excellent. There is no threat of rain and we should not have any interruptions. The pitch at this venue for the previous match was good to bat but also had a bit in it for the bowlers. The fast bowlers could utilize some bounce and the spinners got a bit of help also.
We might see a better batting pitch for this match with even more runs in store.
The average score batting first at the Chinnaswamy Stadium (previous 10 matches) is 178 but the average winning total batting first is 197. If the conditions stay true to character, the team batting first must aim for 200.
These are two flawed teams going at each other. RCB's batting order has underperformed but we think it has a lot of potential to make an impact when it does come good. KKR is still dependent on Russell and Narine a bit too much for our liking.
The contest should be another close one but eventually RCB should be able to get over the line.
