Four to be Hit in the First Over
When Punjab last hosted Bangalore, across both opening overs, the teams hit five boundary fours. They are likely to take a similarly aggressive approach on a decent batting track again.
Total runs for the match to be over 400.5 runs
Punjab Kings’ previous home match against Royal Challengers Bangalore had the highest match aggregate of runs (422) between the sides. The teams’ batting lineups and clever use of the impact player rule could result in them scoring big again.
After six matches, the teams were equal on points. They were only separated by net run rate, which put Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of Punjab Kings. The team from Bangalore will be looking to emulate their achievements of last season where they made it into the play-offs. PBKS did beat RCB in a rain-shortened match but we expect RCB to hit back hard.

Before the start of this season, Royal Challengers Bangalore won three of the past five matches against their opponents, including both fixtures in 2024. Punjab Kings beat Royal Challengers Bangalore twice in 2022.
Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore will meet each other on Sunday, 20 April 2025 at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium. This IPL match will be available to watch in India on either the Star Sports Network for TV broadcast or the JioHotstar app for live-streaming.
Captain Shreyas Iyer has been instrumental to the team’s efforts. Notably, he scored 82 runs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Iyer's 2025 IPL tally of runs boasts over 250 runs with three half-centuries. Emerging talents like Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh have added vigour to the team's lineup.
Prabhsimran, retained ahead of the 2025 season, has accumulated more than 900 runs in over 40 IPL matches. That includes a standout century and four half-centuries, with a top score of 103.
Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis brings international experience and power-hitting capabilities to the squad. All-rounders Marcus Stoinis and Nehal Wadhera have provided depth. Wadhera contributed an unbeaten 43 in a successful chase against the Lucknow Super Giants. Lower-order batter Shashank Singh hit an unbeaten half-century against Chennai.
On the bowling front, the Kings have been formidable. Yuzvendra Chahal, the IPL's all-time leading wicket-taker with more than 200 wickets, delivered a match-winning performance with figures of four for 28 against the Kolkata Knight Riders. His team defended the lowest total in IPL history.
Arshdeep Singh continues to be a key asset, recently becoming Punjab's highest wicket-taker in IPL history with 86 wickets. The pace attack, bolstered by internationals Marco Jansen and Xavier Bartlett. Jansen bowled figures of two for ten in three overs against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the previous match.

Virat Kohli, playing in his 18th IPL campaign, continues to be a cornerstone for RCB. He delivered an unbeaten 62 runs in his innings against Rajasthan Royals. New acquisition Phil Salt complemented Kohli with a brisk 65, forming a formidable 92-run opening partnership that set the tone for RCB's nine-wicket victory against the Royals. Captain Rajat Patidar, entrusted with leadership responsibilities, contributed a steady 64 in the match against Mumbai Indians.
RCB's middle order boasts significant firepower with the inclusion of Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma. Livingstone brings an aggressive batting style, having previously amassed over 1000 IPL runs. Jitesh Sharma adds depth with his ability to accelerate the scoring after an IPL career batting strike rate of just under 150. All-rounders Krunal Pandya and Tim David further bolster the lineup.
Pandya's experience and David's explosive batting, evidenced by his 50 not out against Punjab in his previous innings, provide RCB with versatile options in both batting and bowling departments.
On returning to the team, Josh Hazlewood demonstrated his value by taking three wickets in his three overs in his previous match. Veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, with two four-wicket hauls and two five-wicket hauls in his IPL career.
Yash Dayal is a promising left-arm pacer and young leg-spinner Suyash Sharma adds variety to the bowling lineup. Dayal has taken 35 IPL wickets.

The earlier start may get the captains thinking in the direction of batting first. Of the four matches between the sides from 2022 to 2024, three results have gone the way of the team batting first.
The pitch at this venue brings a balanced contest between bat and ball. The previous game at the venue was heavily in the bowlers’ favour when Punjab were bowled out for 111 before bowling Kolkata all out for 95. The match before that at Mullanpur saw a total of over 400 runs in the game. The truth of how the pitch should play lies between the two extremes.
Sunday will bring sunny weather and hot conditions, while also having a slight humid feel to it. There is no chance of rain during the match.
Punjab Kings will be reasonably confident after their five-wicket win against their visitors in the return fixture. The Royal Challengers Bangalore will come with a point to prove. They showed fight until the end by claiming five wickets defending a low total. They will back their chances if more of their batting lineup can fire.
PBKS vs RCB win percentage stands at 50% in favor of RCB.
