Sunil Narine and Phil Salt are the most successful opening pair of this season. The duo has scored an aggregate of 485 runs at an average of 53.88 and they have 5 stands of 50+ runs.
Phil Salt has been pretty consistent at the top of the order. He has scored 4 half-centuries this season, 3 of which have come in his last 5 innings. He was the top batsman from the team in all 3 of those matches.
The pitch at the Wankhede Stadium isn’t the easiest to bowl on and the batsmen are likely to have a field day. None of the last two matches played here have seen more than 12 wickets fall and we are expecting a similar outcome in this match.
The Kolkata Knight Riders will be looking to strengthen their position in the top four as they travel to Mumbai this Friday. They will face the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium for a day-night match.
Both teams have faced each other in 32 matches to date. The Mumbai Indians have been the dominant side with 23 wins, while KKR has managed to win only 9.
This match can be live-streamed on the Jio Cinema App or watched live on the Star Sports Network.
With just 3 wins in 10 matches, the Mumbai Indians are clearly struggling at the moment. They have only 6 points against their name and are 9th on the points table. Another loss here will make things very difficult for the team in terms of qualification to the next stage.
It was yet another mediocre batting performance by the Mumbai Indians on Tuesday as the team managed to score only 144 runs. Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma will need to give the team a strong start if MI wants to put up a big total. Both of them have struggled so far and we would not advise betting on them in current form.
Barring a couple of half-centuries, Suryakumar Yadav has struggled to get going, and the same is true for Tim David. The reasons for their failures are different, though. SKY has made it count when he gets in but has often lost his wicket early. David, on the other hand, seems to pushed too far down the batting order to really make a difference.
Hardik Pandya has been a big disappointment with the bat and has been expensive with the ball too. Tilak Varma will be the player to watch out for in the middle order.
Coming to the bowling, except for Jasprit Bumrah none of the bowlers have bowled a match-winning spell. The MI bowling lineup is one of the worst-performing in the entire IPL. This is down to a poor usage of resources by Hardik Pandya and the coaching staff.
This is another part of the team that is not going to change overnight and so MI may struggle in this next match as well.
The Kolkata Knight Riders have won 6 of the 9 matches played so far. As a result, the team is placed comfortably in the top 4 at the moment. However, with as many as 5 teams sitting at a 2-point separation, KKR would like to win here and create some gap from the rest of the pack.
Much will depend on the performance on of KKR’s opening pair of Sunil Narine and Phil Salt. The duo has got the team off to some flyers this season. Salt is the leading run-getter for the team with 392 runs, while Narine is close behind with 372.
Venkatesh Iyer and Shreyas Iyer have chipped in with a couple of valuable innings, while Andre Russell and Rinku Singh are the perfect finishers to have lower down the order. All things ocnsidered, the batting lineup for KKR is far stronger than that of MI at the moment.
The spinners for KKR have also done better as Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine have bowled well to pick up 11 wickets each. The seamers on the other hand have struggled a bit. With Harshit Rana receiving a suspension for this match, Mitchell Starc is the only experienced quickster.
Not having Rana for this match could hamper KKR and force them to play an even more inexperienced bowling lineup than normal.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at the Wankhede Stadium is generally good to bat on. The average first-inning score here this season is around 190 but the team batting first will look to score over 200 runs. That said, the seamers will get some help early on in the match but things get better for the batsmen as the ball gets older.
The spinners have had limited success here.
The weather is likely to be warm and humid with temperatures of over 30 degrees.
The Mumbai Indians have clearly struggled to perform well and are likely to find it difficult to bounce back against KKR. KKr's stronger batting lineup and so many more players that are in form point to yet another difficult outing for the Mumbai Indians.
