The Kolkata Knight Riders are in red-hot form, especially with the bat. The team has put up 3 scores of 200+ runs, 2 of which have come at the Eden Gardens.

Sunil Narine and Phil Salt make up for an explosive opening pair and are also the top two run-getters for the team. Narine has been the highlight of KKR’s batting unit, slamming a half-century and a century in his last 4 innings, and is very much in the race for the Orange Cap.

What KKR needs to work on is its middle-order batting. Shreyas Iyer, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, and Venkatesh Iyer, despite getting some good starts, haven’t been able to score big runs. KKR can take some solace from the fact that they have two of the best finishers with the bat in the form of Andre Russell and Rinku Singh.

Bowling is another area where KKR will look to work on. The bowlers were unable to defend a mammoth total of 223 runs in the last match and that is just unacceptable. Except for Narine, all bowlers have an economy rate of over 9 runs per over.

They must therefore be more disciplined with the line and length in this match.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore will be thoroughly disappointed with the way this season has gone until now. With half the group stage already behind them, RCB has managed to win only 1 match and is placed at the bottom of the points table.

Barring Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, and Dinesh Karthik, the batting has been pretty ordinary, to say the least. Kohli is the top run-scorer of the season with 361 runs. He has smashed 2 half-centuries and a century in his last 6 innings.

Du Plessis and Karthik were in red-hot form in the last match, slamming brisk half-centuries, albeit for a losing cause. Nevertheless, batsmen like Mahipal Lomror, Anuj Rawat, Will Jacks, and Rajat Patidar need to step up. The bowling isn’t up to the mark.

Mohammed Siraj has struggled with the new ball, managing to pick up only 4 wickets in 6 outings. Lockie Ferguson and Reece Topley went for over 13 runs per over in the last match, while the spin attack appears almost nonexistent. 

RCB will be under pressure to make changes to its bowling lineup but we are not sure if they have too many options left.

The team batting first will aim for at least 225-250 runs to give the bowlers a good chance at defending. The latter will have very little margin for error and will have to bowl an accurate line and length.

The weather is expected to be hot with temperatures of over 35 degrees, with plenty of sunshine.
