The pitches in Ahmedabad have produced a more even contest between the bat and the ball. As both teams haven’t been too consistent, we think that there will be plenty of wickets seen in this match.
Gaikwad is in red-hot form this season and is averaging 60.11 in 11 matches. He has scored 4 half-centuries and a century in his last 7 innings. As the batting around him has been a bit inconsistent, he has a good chance of being the top batsman for CSK.
Tushar Deshpande has been in good form of late and has picked up at least 2 wickets in each of his last 2 outings. As the pitch in Ahmedabad does help the seamers, Deshpande has a good chance of bowling yet another good spell.
The Chennai Super Kings will be looking to further its case for the playoffs as they travel to Ahmedabad to take on hosts Gujarat Titans for a reverse fixture on Friday. The match will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
The two teams have faced each other in 6 matches to date, with both winning 3 matches each.
This match can be live-streamed on the Jio Cinema App or watched live on the Star Sports Network.
After reaching back-to-back finals in their first two seasons, the Gujarat Titans appear to be a shadow of their former selves. The team has won only 4 matches so far and is sitting at the bottom of the points table.
Barring Sai Sudharsan, none of the batsmen have been able to have much of an impact this series. Sudharsan has scored 424 runs at an average of 42.40. Much was expected from Shubman Gill at the start of the season but barring a couple of half-centuries, he too has failed to get going.
That said, there is no dearth of batting firepower as David Miller and Rahul Tewatia can play the big shots at will.
On their day, the GT batting lineup can be very hard to stop. This opportunity to play against a weak CSK bowling lineup may just be what they need.
The bowling has been very average, to say the least. Mohit Sharma is the leading wicket-taker for the team with 10 wickets but has gone for over 11 runs per over. The spin duo of Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed hasn’t been able to give the team wickets at crucial junctures.
Once again, GT's strength, its spin bowlers, could stop CSK in its track. If they can get Shivam Dube early, the rest of the batting lineup can really struggle to take down high-quality spin.
While the defending champions haven’t been in top form, they have done enough to win 6 of the 11 matches played so far. With as many as 4 teams including CSK sitting on 12 points, the team will look to break away from the pack by winning this one.
Ruturaj Gaikwad is in scintillating form with the bat and has led his team from the front. Gaikwad has scored 541 runs at an average of 60.11 and is the leading run-scorer for the team. However, his opening partner Ajinkya Rahane has struggled at the opposite end.
Daryl Mitchell has played a couple of good knocks in the last few matches and seems to be getting some of his lost form back. Shivam Dube has had a good season so far and will play an important role going ahead. His two recent first ball ducks have cost CSK heavily and that shows just how much the side relies on his performances.
MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja have played some good cameos so far but a lot more is needed from both players. We think CSK is hampered massively by the inclusion of both Jadeja and Dhoni in the playing elevn.
With Matheesha Pathirana and Mustafizur Rahman set to miss the rest of the season, there will be added pressure on Tushar Deshpande to perform better. The spin attack does seem a bit thin with Jadeja being the only quality bowler. Jadeja stepped up in the previous match but this bowling attack from CSK is highly vulnerable to being taken down.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitches in Ahmedabad have been balanced especially when compared to some other grounds this season. The average first-inning score here has been around 164. The quicker bowlers will get assistance from the pitch, especially when the ball is new.
The batsmen can start playing their shots once the ball gets a bit old. The spinners on the other hand will have to be accurate with their line and length.
There is no rain expected and the tempratures should be around the early thirties degrees centigrade.
While both teams have played below their potential this season, we feel that this is a great opportunity to back the underdog. GT is playing at home against an underpowered CSK bowling lineup. The batting for CSK is also not the strongest.
Bet on the Gujarat Titans to win.
