The Delhi Capitals went into the mega auction after retaining just 4 players. They included Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, who will lead the spin department in this match. The other two players were Tristan Stubbs and Abishek Porel, who have been an integral part of the batting line-up.

The biggest surprise came when the Capitals let go of Rishabh Pant, who had been part of the team for 8 years and wasn’t picked up during the auction as well.

They splurged quite a bit during the auction, with KL Rahul being their most expensive buy. The Capitals have also brought in Faf du Plessis and Harry Brook to add heft to the batting. The inclusion of Jake Fraser-McGurk using RTM is also a bit positive. *Update* Harry Brook has pulled out of the IPL for personal reasons. DC is expected to name a replacement for him soon.

Besides Axar Patel, the Capitals have a quality all-rounder in the form of Donovan Ferreira, who not only adds depth to the batting but is also a handy spin bowler. The team has plenty of bench strength when it comes to pace, thanks to the presence of Mitchell Starc, Mohit Sharma, T Natarajan, Dushmantha Chameera, and Mukesh Kumar.

After making it to the playoffs in its first two seasons of the IPL, the Lucknow Super Giants faltered in the last season and finished a disappointing 7th on the points table. This has led the team to make quite a few changes in the squad as they hope to put up a better performance this time around.

The biggest news from the Lucknow team is that they have let go of KL Rahul, who had led the team for the first three seasons. To compensate for his departure, LSG splurged 27 crores on Rishabh Pant, making him the costliest buy in IPL history. He will lead the team in this tournament.

The Super Giants have also brought in David Miller, Matthew Breetzke, and Mitchell Marsh, who bring plenty of firepower and they will be joined by Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni, who have been consistent performers for the team.

Aiden Markram is a quality all-rounder but has yet to prove his worth in the IPL. In addition to Markram, there are a few domestic all-rounders like Shahbaz Ahmed, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, and Arshin Kulkarni but they lack the experience.

While the seam department is pretty strong due to the presence of quality fast bowlers like Mayank Yadav, Akash Deep, Shamar Joseph, and Mohsin Khan, LSG does seem to be a bit short in the spin department with Ravi Bishnoi being the only full-time spinner.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at Vizag is usually good to bat on. The surface is flat and hard, offering good pace and bounce. There are a few green patches that the new-ball bowlers can exploit early on in the game but as the batsmen settle down, they will be able to play their shots. The average first-inning score here is around 170. During the second half, the pitch may slow down a bit and help the spinners.

Anything over 180 will be difficult to chase here.

The weather will be warm and humid with temperatures of between 25 and 30 degrees. There might be some dew on the ground during the second half.
