The Chennai Super Kings have had terrible luck at the toss, managing to win only once in the 8 matches played so far.
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma have done an excellent job for SRH, scoring an aggregate of 315 runs at an average of 63.00. On the other hand, Ruturaj Gaikwad has struggled to find a consistent opening partner.
Gaikwad is in top form and has scored 349 runs at an average of 58.16. He has scored 2 half-centuries and a century in his last 4 innings and was the top batsman for CSK in all 3 of them
Pathirana has an excellent record at the Chepauk and has picked up 13 wickets in his 8 matches here. Pathirana has picked up at least 2 wickets in 4 of the last 6 matches on home turf and we are backing him to bowl a good spell.
The Chennai Super Kings will be looking to get back to winning ways as they take on the mighty Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday. The two teams will clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai for a day/night encounter.
Both teams have faced each other in 21 matches to date. The Super Kings have an excellent record with 15 wins, while the Sunrisers have won 6.
This match can be live-streamed on the Jio Cinema App or watched live on the Star Sports Network.
The Super Kings are coming into this contest after back-to-back losses against the Lucknow Super Giants and will be desperate for a win. The fact that the 2nd loss came at Fortress Chepauk would have hurt them even more.
Nevertheless, CSK is a quality side and it is just a matter of time before they bounce back. Ruturaj Gaikwad has led his team by example, scoring 2 half-centuries and a century so far. He is the leading run-getter for the team and will yet again be the key batsman.
Gaikwad has the support of Shivam Dube, whose flamboyant batting has helped him score 311 runs at a strike rate of 169.94. CSK's biggest concern remains the form of Ajinkya Rahane, Rachin Ravindra, and Daryl Mitchell, all of whom are averaging under 25 runs. Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni have played a couple of impressive cameos but they are only supporting players of the batting lineup and unlikely to be match-winners without the others doing the bulk of the work.
Mustafizur Rahman and Tushar Deshpande are likely to begin the proceedings with the new ball, while Pathirana has been bowling well towards the death. The bowlers need to be a bit more accurate with their line and length, especially as they face the batting prowess of SRH.
CSK has offered up some real batting beauties at home and if the surface for this match is also like that, they could find themselves in real trouble.
After scoring impressive victories in 4 consecutive matches, the Sunrisers’ winning run was halted by RCB on Thursday. However, the team still remains 3rd on the points table.
Travis Head suffered a rare failure in the last match as he was dismissed for just 1 run. His opening partner, Abhishek Sharma continues to play well as he slammed 31 runs from just 13 deliveries.
The inconsistencies in the SRH middle order were exposed after the departure of the opening pair as the batting line-up crumbled under pressure. Heinrich Klaasen started the season on an excellent note but has barely crossed double-digit scores in 4 of his last 5 innings.
Aiden Markram, Nitish Reddy, and Abdul Samad have struggled on various occasions.
The high risk approach obviously carries some inherrent risks with it but the success of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma at the top of the order has hidden some of their weaknesses.
SRH has a strong pace attack led by Pat Cummins and supported by T Natarajan, Jaydev Unadkat, and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. While all of them are wicket-taking bowlers, they have been very expensive at times, and that is something that the team needs to work on.
Adding Abhishek Sharma as a bowling option is also a smart move as that give Pat CUmmins some flexibility. The spin section remains quite weak.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at the Chepauk Stadium is generally good to bat on. The average first-inning score here this season is around 182. However, going by the way both the teams, especially the SRH have batted this season, a score of around 200 can be considered to be a par score.
The quicker bowlers can expect some help during the Powerplay but things get easier for the batsmen as the ball gets older.
The weather will be warm and humid with temperatures of around 31 degrees.
While CSK enjoys an advantage against SRH in head-to-head contests, they haven’t been consistent enough. But playing under home conditions gives them an edge. SRH has batted exceptionally well but a lot will depend on how the opening pair performs.
Bet on the Chennai Super Kings to win.
