Rahul and de Kock have done well as an opening pair this season, scoring 279 runs. They put up a century stand in the last match and looked in fine form. On the other hand, CSK is struggling to find a consistent opening pair.
The Chepauk Stadium isn’t the easiest stadium to bowl in. Only one of the 3 matches played here this season has seen over 13 wickets fall. Also, only 1 of the 7 matches played by CSK and 3 of the 7 matches played by LSG have seen more than 13 wickets.
Rahul has an average of 40.85 this season. He has scored at least 30 runs in each of his last 4 innings and we are expecting another good knock from him. Always follow form!
The Chennai Super Kings will be out to avenge its loss against the Lucknow Super Giants as they host them on Tuesday. The match will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Both teams have faced each other in 4 matches to date. The Super Giants have won 2 of those games, while CSK has won once. One match ended as a no-result.
This match can be live-streamed on the Jio Cinema App or watched live on the Star Sports Network.
CSK will be very disappointed with the way they played at the Ekana Stadium on Friday. The bowlers put up a particularly weak show as they managed to get only 2 wickets despite a decent bowling surface on offer. As the team returns to its fortress, CSK will be hopeful of holding on to its place in the top 4.
It was a rare failure on the part of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube as the duo got dismissed quite cheaply. Ajinkya Rahane got a good start at the top of the batting order but failed to convert it into a big inning. Rachin Ravindra and Sameer Rizvi have got a long rope but they will need to start delivering soon if they want to retain their place in the playing eleven.
The two all-rounders, Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja do add depth to the batting, while MS Dhoni has played a couple of excellent cameos and might yet again come in handy. Mustafizur Rahman remains the team’s leading wicket-taker with 11 wickets and will be joined by Tushar Deshpande with the new ball.
Matheesha Pathirana’s ability to pick up wickets makes him an invaluable asset during the death overs.
CSK at home is a whole different team than the one that travels away from home!
After facing back-to-back losses, LSG finally managed to turn things around by defeating CSK on Friday. This not only gives the team two important points but also gives them plenty of confidence.
The bowlers did an excellent job of keeping the explosive CSK batting line-up under check. Yash Thakur and Mohsin Khan were spot-on with the line and length, while Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis kept up the pressure during the middle overs.
The bowlers have been expensive at times and will need to be consistent with their line and length as they head to the batting-friendly wicket of Chepauk. Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul put up a century stand in the last match and have been very consistent throughout the season.
Nicholas Pooran is an invaluable asset in the middle order thanks to his clean strokeplay. The batting lower down the order hasn’t been the best though and the all-rounders will need to step up with the bat.
We have seen LSG thrive in relatively low-scoring matches but struggle when the batting surface requires them to score more freely. That is something that could hold them back in this match, even though some of their players have been showing signs of good form.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at Chennai is generally very hard and offers a good amount of bounce. There is very little grass on the surface and the seamers will need to pitch the ball in the right areas if they want some movement. There are some cracks on the surface which can help the spinners extract some turn.
Nevertheless, the batsmen will have a good time and a score of around 180 will be a par score. The weather is likely to be warm and humid and the dew might come in during the second half.
We expect a much closer contest this time around as both teams fight to keep themselves in the top 4. While Lucknow was clinical in the last match, we feel that it is an advantage for Chennai as they return to their home turf.
