St George’s Park has hosted 4 complete T20I matches and only 1 has seen 14 or more wickets fall. Also, only 2 of the last 5 T20s between India and South Africa played in South Africa have seen over 13.5 wickets. We are therefore recommending an ‘Under’ wager here.
In the 4 games played here, no batsman has been able to score more than 70 runs. As the pitch here does help the bowlers, we reckon that no batter will be able to score more than 72 runs here.
Having lost the first match, South Africa will be out to level the series as it takes on India for the 2nd match on Sunday. It will be played at the St George’s Park in Gqeberha.
The two teams have faced each other in 28 matches to date. India is the dominant team with 16 wins compared to 11 for South Africa. One match ended without any result.
This match will be live-streamed on the Jio Cinema App. You can also watch it live on the Sports 18 Network.
South Africa will be disappointed with the way they performed in the previous game despite winning the toss.
Despite having some of the biggest names in T20 cricket including David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen, the batting was a big let-down for the hosts even as the pitch seemed to favor the batsmen. Ryan Rickleton and Aiden Markram both got good starts but were unable to carry on.
They will need to stay longer here and score runs during the Powerplay. This will also mean that the new ball will wear off and make things easier for the middle order, some of whom play the spinners better.
The team also seemed to be a bit lacking when it came to depth of batting and perhaps bringing in Reeza Hendricks could be a good idea. The bowlers were struggling as well. Gerald Coetzee did pick up 3 wickets but was quite expensive.
Marco Jansen also struggled to find a good rhythm. The hosts will need big improvements in all departments if they want to win here.
India scored a comprehensive victory on Friday and will hope to put up a similar performance at Gqeberha as well as it looks to wrap up the series.
Sanju Samson was in sublime form as he struck his second consecutive century in the shortest format. His partnerships with Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma set the tone for a massive total for India that eventually proved too big for the hosts.
However, his innings masked some of the shortcomings of the middle order and that is something the team will look to iron out. Varma and Sky were both unable to convert their starts into big knocks while the likes of Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, and Abhishek Sharma failed to get going.
The bowlers, especially the spinners, bowled brilliantly and a similar performance will be expected from them in this match as well. Varun Chakravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi picked up 3 wickets each and are likely to retain their place in the playing XI.
Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan will lead the attack with the new ball.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first
The pitch at Gqeberha usually plays the same throughout the match and the toss will not be such a big factor. There is a good amount of carry for the quicker bowlers and the batsmen will be wary of the new ball. However, as the ball gets a bit old, playing the shots will get easier.
A score of around 170-180 will be a par score. The spinners can expect some help as well, provided they hit the right areas.
The weather is likely to be overcast and there may be some interruptions due to rain.
India put up a clinical performance in the first game and they start as the favorites to win this match. They have a well-balanced team with a couple of good all-rounders who give them an edge. That said, South Africa will come out fighting and we can expect a close contest.
Bet on India to win.
