India won by 135 runs
The pitch at the Wanderers Stadium is excellent to bat on, and many high-scoring games have been seen. In the 33 matches played here, there have been 19 individual scores of 72 or above. Seeing the form of some individuals in this series, we may see at least one of them put up a big total.
The Indian opening pair has put up 0 runs as partners in the last 2 games with their highest partnership being 24 runs. On the other hand, the South African openers have put up at least 22 runs in the previous two games.
With India leading the 4-match series 2-1, they will face South Africa in the final match of this tour on Friday. It will be played at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
The two teams have faced each other in 30 matches to date. India won 17 of them while South Africa won 12. One match ended without a result.
This match will be live-streamed on the Jio Cinema App. You can also watch it live on the Sports 18 Network.
South Africa has been a bit inconsistent in this series, and there are a few areas where they would hope to improve before the start of this match.
The bowling, particularly from the spinners, has been pretty ordinary. Keshav Maharaj is the most experienced spinner on the squad but has managed to pick up only 3 wickets in as many games, while Nqabayomzi Peter has picked up 2.
The seamers have performed marginally better in terms of wickets but have been quite expensive on a few occasions. The only silver lining is Marco Jansen, who has once again proved to be an excellent all-rounder. Jansen has picked up 3 wickets and has also scored 73 runs at a strike rate of 208.57.
His brilliant half-century in the previous game got his team tantalizingly close to a win.
The opening pair of Reeza Hendricks and Ryan Rickleton has not been able to score runs during the powerplay and that has put pressure on the middle order, which too has failed to deliver. The hosts need a special performance from at least a couple of individuals if they want to level the series.
South Africa has struggled to get on top of India this entire series. Even the one match that they won was a close affair which India would have been disappointed to lose. Things are not looking promising for the hosts just yet.
After facing a disappointing defeat in the 2nd T20I, India came back strongly on Friday to claim an unassailable lead.
Tilak Varma was the principal architect of the victory as he slammed his first international T20 century. He was promoted to the number 3 slot for this match and seeing his performance, is likely to retain that place. He received excellent support from Abhishek Sharma, who also scored a half-century as India posted a mammoth target.
Nevertheless, there are quite a few areas where the team needs to improve. Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh are averaging under 10 runs after 3 games, while Sanju Samson has been dismissed for a duck in his last 2 outings.
The all-rounders, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel have been inconsistent as well. Coming to the bowling, Varun Chakravarthy is the pick of the bowlers with 10 wickets. He, along with Ravi Bishnoi and Axar Patel makes up for a strong spin attack.
Arshdeep Singh will lead the attack with the new ball and will be joined by Hardik Pandya.
Despite some issues to be sorted. it is clear that India has the stronger batting lineup in this contest. Its bowling, especially the spinners, have also tested the South Africans. This is an excellent opportunity for a new-look Indian side to end with a series win.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first
The Wanderers Stadium usually offers a good batting surface and the average first-inning score here is around 175. The pitch is flat, offering a good pace and bounce that allows the batsmen to open their arms. The outfield is quick and the boundaries are comparatively short. There may be some moisture in the pitch early in the game, helping the seamers.
The weather is likely to be clear with temperatures of around 20 degrees.
Both teams have shown inconsistencies in their recent outings and there is no clear favorite here. However, we feel that India has a slight edge thanks to its depth of batting and a stronger bowling line-up.
Bet on India to win.
