The pitch at Kingsmead isn’t the easiest to bat on. None of the current players from either squad has scored over 70 runs. Also, only 6 batsmen in 18 matches have been able to score 70 or more runs here.
Ryan Rickelton and Reeza Hendricks have recently started opening as a pair and are averaging 55.40 in 5 innings. 3 of their last 4 outings have been 50+ partnerships with one being a 100+ stand. We are therefore backing them to start well.
Fresh off its humiliating loss against New Zealand in a Test series, India will hope to find some solace as it embarks on a 4-match T20 tour of South Africa starting this week. The first match will be played at the Kingsmead Stadium in Durban.
The two teams have faced each other in 37 matches to date. India won 15 games while South Africa won 11. 1 match ended without any result.
This match will be live-streamed on the Jio Cinema App. You can also watch it live on the Sports 18 Network.
The Proteas haven’t had the best of times when it comes to the shortest format. However, its recent success in the Bangladesh Test series would have given the team something to cheer about.
The hosts have opted for a mix of young and experienced players for this series. Reeza Hendricks and Ryan Rickelton are expected to headline the top order, while skipper Aiden Markram will feature in the middle order.
There are plenty of big names in the batting unit including David Miller, Heinrich Klaasen, and Tristan Stubbs. Marco Janeson makes a comeback to the squad and will join Donovan Ferreira as an all-rounder. The biggest changes come in the bowling department.
With Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada being rested, Gerald Coetzee and Ottneil Baartman will lead the pace attack. Andile Simelane and Mihlali Mpongwana have been rewarded for their excellent bowling in the domestic circuit, while Keshav Maharaj has been included as a specialist spinner.
As has been the case in the recent T20 series’, India has opted for a young squad to face the South Africans on their home turf.
Suryakumar Yadav will lead a batting unit that has plenty of big strikers including himself. Sanju Samson could open the batting alongside Abhishek Sharma with Tilak Varma coming in at number 3. The middle order is likely to consist of Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar, Hardik Pandya, and Rinku Singh.
Axar Patel could be included as a second all-rounder and a spinner. Ravi Bishnoi and Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi and Varun Chakaravarthy, who enjoyed success in recent matches against Bangladesh are the other two spinners on the squad.
Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan are likely to lead the attack with the new ball.
India has a lot of power and versatility in this new-look T20 team. The real challenge is going to be to adapt to the conditions quickly and hit the ground running.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.
The pitch at Kingsmead is balanced and provides equal opportunities to the batsmen and bowlers. The seamers will get some swing with the new ball and the batsmen will have to settle down before they start playing the big shots. The average first-inning score here is around 160. The spinners will get some help throughout the match.
The weather is expected to remain overcast with temperatures of between 20 and 22 degrees.
We are backing South Africa to win this match. They have a stronger side compared to India with a strong batting line-up and a well-rounded bowling attack. The visitors lack experience and will find it difficult to overcome such a strong opposition.
Bet on South Africa to win.
