Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma make up for a strong opening pair. They average 47.54 as a pair. Also, the average opening partnership at this venue is 37.19. We are therefore backing India in putting up a good opening stand. Even if KL Rahul continues to open, he is in good form as well and is likely to score runs.
This is a high-risk bet with a potentially massive return. It is easy to see how the batters from both sides could easily push forward and bunt the ball into a gap for two. A small wager with the potential for a nice return is the way to go here.
After securing an early lead, India will look to keep the momentum going as it takes on Australia for the 2nd Test match in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The two teams will clash at the Adelaide Oval in a day-night Pink Ball Test match starting Friday.
The two teams have faced each other in 108 matches to date. Australia won 45 while India won 33. One match was a tie while 29 ended in a draw. India has had the upper hand when it comes to the more recent record, though. It has won the previous four Border-Gavaskar Trophies and has lost just one out of its last seven Tests in Australia.
This match will be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App. You can also watch it live on the Star Sports Network.
Australia faced its first-ever Test defeat at the Optus stadium as it unraveled against a clinical Indian team. After the heartbreaking loss, the hosts have had a week to gather themselves and will hope to bounce back.
At the outset, the team has some bad news as Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out of this match due to a side strain. The selectors have included Sean Abbott and Brendan Doggett, both of whom are uncapped at the Test level, to cover for him. However, it could be Scott Boland who will replace Hazlewood in the playing XI.
Another addition to the squad is Beau Webster, who has been rewarded for some excellent performances in the domestic circuit. The batting unit remains relatively unchanged. McSweeney and Usman Khawaja will open the batting, with Steven Smith, Mitchell Marsh, Marnus Labuschagne, and Travis Head coming in lower down.
There have been reports that Mitchell Marsh may not be able to bowl so there is a chance that Australia replaces him with Beau Webster.
The pace attack will be led by Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, while Nathan Lyon will keep his place as the specialist spinner.
Australia has never lost a pink ball Test but it has probably never been under more pressure coming into such a match as it is now. Its leading batters are struggling for form and questions about their place in the team are getting louder. If Australia falls behind, we could see them panic and self-destruct.
India was dismissed for 150 runs in the first innings after opting to bat and most fans would have lost hope of winning the the match. However, led by an indomitable Jasprit Bumrah, the team scripted a brilliant turnaround to wrap up the match in 4 days.
With Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill both available for selection in this match, India has a problem of plenty as far as the batting line-up is concerned. It is likely that Rohit Sharma will join Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top of the order and KL Rahul coming in at number 3, even though the practice match saw both Jaiswal and Rahul open.
Virat Kohli finally managed to find some form as he slammed his 30th Test century and will once again be a key player in the middle order. With Jaiswal, Rahul, Rohit, Virat, Gill, Pant, and possibly Reddy at 7, India has a lot of batting depth.
We also think Ravindra Jadeja or R Ashwin will find a place in the playing eleven in place of Washington Sundar.
The fast bowling unit is likely to be unchanged. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Harshit Rana are the 3 seamers that led India to a win in the previous match and will be trusted once more.
India is in a good space of mind but memories of being bowled out for 36 in Adelaide will be relatively fresh. Things can change very quickly in cricket but for the time being, it seems as if India has an excellent opportunity to pile on the pressure.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first. Getting a big first-inning total is key as batting is expected to get harder after the third day.
The pitch at the Adelaide Oval is usually good to bat on. The average first-inning score here is around 386. The surface is flat with a good pace and bounce. While the new ball does swing a bit, the batsmen will be able to play their shots as the ball gets older. On the final two days, some cracks may appear, aiding the spinners.
While the batters might find it easy in the day time, we have seen some swing and movement with the pink ball under lights. Wickets tend to fall in clumps during that time.
Anything over 150 will be difficult to chase in the 4th innings.
The weather will be clear with temperatures of between 18 and 25 degrees.
With two of the strongest Test nations facing each other, this is one of the more difficult games to call. We feel that India has a slight edge as their batting is bolstered by the return of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Also, the absence of Josh Hazlewood will put a dent in the hosts’ bowling attack.
The odds available also make betting on India worth the risk.
Bet on India to win.
