The last few matches played at Cuttack have all been high-scoring encounters. The batsmen get plenty of opportunities to score runs. The outfield here is quick and the boundaries aren’t the longest. We are therefore likely to see at least one big over.
The bowlers are likely to have a difficult time at this venue. Just 1 of the last 6 matches played here have seen more than 17 wickets fall and we are expecting that trend to continue.
After taking an early lead on Thursday, India will aim to win the 3-match series as it takes on England on Sunday at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
The two teams have faced each other in 108 matches so far. India has won 59 while England won 44. 3 matches had no result while 2 were ties.
This match can be watched live on Disney+ Hotstar App and Star Sports Network.
India began the preparations for the Champions Trophy in style with a clinical performance at Nagpur. They will now look to continue with the same intensity going ahead.
Despite the win, there are a few areas that the home team needs to improve on. The opening pair struggled against the new ball on a pitch that seemed good to bat on. Yashasvi Jaiswal didn’t have the best of debuts in ODIs as he fell for 15 runs, while Rohit Sharma’s poor run across formats continues.
The middle order however performed well, with Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and Axar Patel all scoring half-centuries. Seeing their form, the selectors could be unwilling to drop any of them to bring in Virat Kohli, who missed the previous game due to a niggle.
With the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya coming in lower down, India has plenty of depth in their batting. Harshit Rana was excellent in his first ODI as he scalped 3 wickets.
He will join Mohammed Shami with the new ball while Axar, Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav will lead the spin attack.
England’s poor form from the T20s seems to have spilled over to the 50-over format as well. After a surprising decision to bat first, the visitors squandered away a good start and posted a below-par target, and couldn’t recover after that.
Phil Salt and Ben Duckett got the team off to a blazing start and will look to do the same in this match as well. However, the team will expect better performance from Harry Brook and Joe Root. The only bright spot for England has been Jos Buttler, who has batted consistently well.
England's challenges against spin are going to test them in every single match. Finding an answer is not going to be easy and until they are able to counter the Indian spinners, we don't think England will be competitive.
The bowling has been pretty lackluster as well. Saqib Mahmood and Brydon Carse have been expensive and they will need to be disciplined with their line and length. Adil Rashid could be pretty effective during the middle overs and will be England’s key bowler.
The sustained short ball attack against Shreyas Iyer backfired quite spectacularly but we are almost certain that England is going to continue to follow that strategy.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at Cuttack is likely to be flat, offering excellent pace and bounce. The bowlers will get very little help from the surface and they need to keep varying their length and pace. The batsmen will have a good time at this venue as the ball comes nicely onto the bat. The team batting first will look to score at least 300 runs.
The weather will be cloudy with temperatures of between 25 and 30 degrees.
We are backing India in winning this match. They played well in the last match and will be feeling confident as they head. Most of their players are in good form and should face little problem in overcoming an underperforming England team.
Bet on India to win.
