Lendl Simmons is the West Indies’ leading run-scorer with 294 runs. He has scored at least 29 runs in 4 of his last 5 innings, including a century and a half-century. Looking at his form, we are backing Simmons to play a good knock here.
The pitch at Raipur is excellent for batsmen to bat on and provides them with plenty of opportunities to score runs. 4 of the 6 matches played here in this tournament have seen at least one individual score of 74 or more runs and we are expecting that trend to continue.
As the ongoing edition of the International Masters League nears its end, the India Masters will take on the West Indies Masters in the finals on Sunday at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur.
The two teams have faced each other once, with the India Masters winning that match.
This match can be watched live on the Jiostar App and Colors Cineplex.
The India Masters have been among the most consistent sides this year, having lost just one of the 6 games they have played. They are coming into this contest on the back of an emphatic victory over Australia in the semifinals.
India boasts of a very strong batting line-up and rather than depending on any one batsman, they have performed well as a unit. Sachin Tendulkar and Ambati Rayudu are likely to open the batting in this match. Tendulkar is in good form against the new ball and has been scoring at a strike rate of over 150.
Gurkeerat Singh and Yuvaraj Singh have been consistent in the middle order and will be joined by Yusuf Pathan and Stuart Binny. The bowling from India has been excellent as well. The seam department consists of Irfan Pathan, Stuart Binny, and Vinay Kumar.
The trio has picked up 17 wickets between them. Pawan has been brilliant during the middle overs and is the team’s top wicket-taker with 8 wickets.
The West Indies had finished 4th on the points table to make it through to the knockouts. They then defeated Sri Lanka in a thrilling encounter to set up a date with India in Sunday’s finals.
Dwayne Smith has been pretty consistent at the top of the order, scoring two half-centuries in his 6 innings. He is likely to be joined by William Perkins as his opening partner. Lendl Simmons has been in excellent form as well and is the second-highest run-scorer of the tournament.
The middle order has some big names like Brian Lara, Chadwick Walton, and Dinesh Ramdin. However, they haven’t been consistent enough. Coming to the bowling, Ravi Rampaul is the leading wicket-taker for the West Indies and will lead the attack with the new ball.
He will likely be joined by Tino Best, with Jerome Taylor coming in as the first change. The spin attack consists of Ashley Nurse and Suleiman Benn, who have picked up 13 wickets between them.
4 of the last 6 matches played here have been won while batting first. While in 5 of those games, the captain has decided to field first after winning the toss, we feel that batting first might be a better option here.
The pitch in Raipur is excellent to bat on and has produced some high-scoring games in this tournament. The surface is flat and hard, offering excellent pace and bounce. The batsmen will be able to play their shots with ease.
The team batting first will look to score over 200 runs. In the second half, the pitch might slow down a bit, helping the spinners.
The weather is likely to remain warm with temperatures around 32 degrees.
Both the teams have played well to reach this far in the tournament and we are expecting a close contest between them. While it is a bit difficult to pick a winner here, we feel that India has a better chance of winning as they have a stronger middle order and a well-balanced bowling unit.
