The pitch at Abu Dhabi is usually good to bat on. The outfield is pretty quick and the boundaries aren’t the longest as well. As both teams have some big strikers of the ball, we are expecting a couple of big overs.
One of the best T20 batters in the world, Nicholas Pooran is also someone who can take down spinners with ease. We think his match against the Knight Riders bowling is very favorable.
MI Emirates will look to make it two in two as they face the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders for a second time in 3 days. The match will be played on Friday at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
The two teams have faced each other in 3 matches and all of them were won by MI Emirates.
This match can be watched live on the FanCode App and Zee5 app.
The Emirates have won 3 of their 5 matches this season and are currently placed 2nd on the points table. Their latest victory came on Tuesday as they defeated the Knight Riders quite comfortably.
Kusal Perera and Muhammad Waseem make up for a consistent opening pair. The duo put up a brisk partnership of 42 runs in the previous match that laid the foundation for a match-winning total. Nicholas Pooran was once again at his explosive best as he scored 49 runs in just 26 balls.
In addition to Pooran, there are plenty of big hitters in the middle order including Kieron Pollard, Tom Banton, Dan Mousley, and Romario Shepherd who can score big runs during the death overs. MI Emirates have one of the strongest pace attacks in the league with Fazalhaq Farooqi leading the pack. He has 12 wickets against his name.
Alzarri Joseph and Zahoor Khan have supported him well. The spinners have done a decent job so far with Akeal Hosein and Waqar Salamkheil picking up 5 wickets between them.
The Abu Dhabi Knight Riders have alternated between a win and a loss in their 5 games and are currently 3rd on the points table.
Andries Gous and Kyle Mayers will need to give the team a strong start here. They have been a bit inconsistent so far with Mayers averaging under 20 runs in his 5 outings. The middle order has played relatively better with Joe Clarke being the leading run-scorer with 115 runs.
However, the likes of Michael Pepper, Alishan Sharafu, and Laurie Evans are yet to fire. Andre Russell did play some big shots in the last match but it was a case of too little too late. The form of the team’s skipper also is a cause of concern as Sunil Narine has picked up only 2 wickets in 5 games.
He remains the only spinner in the game. In the pace department, Jason Holder has picked up 10 wickets while Ali Khan and David Willey have 9 wickets among themselves.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.
The pitch at Abu Dhabi has an even covering of grass and that might aid the quicker bowlers early in the game. However, the surface is hard, offering excellent pace and bounce. Once the batsmen settle in, they will be able to play the big shots. The team batting first will look to score around 180 runs.
The weather will be pleasant with temperatures of around 21 degrees.
We are backing the MI Emirates to win this match. They played well in the last match and appear to be in good form. The team has plenty of strength and depth in its batting unit and a well-balanced bowling attack.
Bet on the MI Emirates to win.
