Launched over 50 years ago as the New Zealand Motor Corporation Knock-Out, the Ford Trophy has a long and proud history as a leading domestic limited-overs cricket competition.Â
Gillette, State Insurance, and Shell are among the companies that have previously paid to sponsor the NZ event, which has been known as the Ford Trophy for over a decade.Â
Nowadays, the Ford Trophy is played between November and February in NZ. Venues often used for Ford Trophy matches include the Hagley Oval in Christchurch, Queens Park in Invercargill, Hamilton's Seddon Park, and Pukekura Park in New Plymouth.Â
Canterbury is by far the most successful side in the history of the Ford Trophy, having been crowned winners of the cricket competition 16 times to date, three clear of rivals Auckland. Otago tends to find it difficult to compete for the Ford Trophy honours, with only two successful seasons, while Northern Districts and Central Districts have been champions seven times each.Â
Canterbury lifted the 2023–24 Ford Trophy. After the weather intervened, Canterbury beat Auckland by five wickets using the DLS method. Tom Latham contributed a critical 64 in their innings, and Canterbury chased down their revised target with just five balls to spare.Â
One of the reasons that Ford Trophy match predictions have become so popular is that the cricket competition has earned a reputation for its results being hard to predict by fans.Â
The past three seasons of the Ford Trophy have seen three different teams crowned champions, while the last time a team won it twice in a row was 2015–16. That was when Central Districts successfully defended the Ford Trophy title.Â
The Ford Trophy - a 50-over cricket competition - consists of six teams, which are as follows:Â Â
The Ford Trophy has a round-robin group stage, in which the six sixes play each other both at home and away. The table's top team ultimately advances to the grand final. Â
Second and third in the Ford Trophy, then go into the eliminator to earn the other final slot.Â
The Ford Trophy schedule often includes multiple matches on the same day throughout the round-robin group stage of the competition, especially at the start and end of it.Â
Unlike newer cricket competitions such as The Hundred, the Ford Trophy uses a standard six-ball over. This has been the case since 1979–80 when the decision was made to standardise overs of six balls rather than using the previous length of eight balls.
With excitement growing ahead of the next season in New Zealand, it is no surprise that many cricket fans in India are searching for Ford Trophy match predictions.Â
Our expert team at OCBscores will publish daily Ford Trophy predictions throughout the tournament, from its opening day in November to the event's grand final.Â
As always, all of our cricket match predictions today are free to read. They are published 24-48 hours before each match and updated if there is any late news to add.Â
