The first over of South Africa Women’s innings in the first ODI of the series featured a boundary four off the bowling of Lauren Bell. Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits may look to repeat that feat in this match. This would be worth betting on.
South Africa Women have two opening batters who will want to maximise the powerplay fielding restrictions. They managed six runs in their first over of the Women’s ODI series against England Women. This bet has a good chance of paying out.
Despite an early setback for the English in the first Women’s ODI, they will have confidence from their record at Senwes Park. They have won five from five Women’s ODIs when playing against the Proteas Women in Potchefstroom. Knight’s ladies are a quality 50-over team that will have the knowledge of what it takes to bounce back. The South African Women will be looking to improve their record at home in Women’s ODIs against England Women, especially under new management.
The tourists have won more Women’s ODIs than South Africa in their last five matches. This could make them slight favourites. The English Women won the previous Women’s ODI series against South Africa Women when it was hosted in England.
South Africa did win the first game of this series, though.
If you are watching from India, you can catch this second Women’s ODI between South Africa Women and England Women on the JioCinema app. This second Women’s ODI will take place on Sunday, 8 December 2024 at Kingsmead, Durban.
Laura Wolvaardt will be looking to lead a new-look South African Women team to a dominant series victory. Her batting will be equally important as her ability to set aggressive fields. Wolvaardt hammered an unbeaten 135 runs off 135 balls in the second Women’s ODI versus India.
Tazmin Brits and Sune Luus complement Wolvaardt with their batting skills. Brits brings aggressive opening flair and Luus will navigate the middle period of the batting innings.
In the middle-order, Annerie Dercksen and Marizanne Kapp bring depth and stability. Kapp’s vast worldwide experience with bat and ball will be crucial for the South Africans to claim another Women’s ODI victory.
She also hit an impressive century, alongside Wolvaardt, in a high-scoring thriller in India. Nadine de Klerk and Chloe Tryon add further dynamism to the all-rounder role.
The bowling attack is spearheaded by the experienced Ayabonga Khaka and Nonkululeko Mlaba. Khaka is a skilled seam bowler who will be dangerous when there is movement off the pitch. She opened her previous Women’s ODI series with three wickets in her first game.
Mlaba's left-arm spin will be useful for Wolvaardt when she needs someone to break the game open after the first ten overs. She grabbed two wickets against India Women in the second Women’s ODI on tour in India. Ayanda Hlubi adds more pace to the bowling attack. Behind the stumps, Sinalo Jafta provides reliability with the gloves.
The explosive Sophia Dunkley will pump the runs in the powerplay. Alongside her, Tammy Beaumont's experience and solid technique give the visitors the confidence to play their shots with Beaumont expected to be the glue of the batting innings.
Beaumont hit a half-century against Ireland Women in the last tour for the English Women. That was off the back of an unbeaten 150 runs in the same series. Captain Heather Knight will be another dependable batting option for England Women. Dunkley and Knight both hit half-centuries in the last Women’s ODI of their previous series against South Africa Women.
Nat Sciver-Brunt is a linchpin all-rounder in the team’s lineup. Danni Wyatt-Hodge adds firepower in the middle-order batting. Wicketkeeper-batter Amy Jones is also pivotal in boosting the run rate in the middle and will be key behind the stumps. The young Alice Capsey brings youthful energy to the batting and bowling lineups.
The bowling attack is spearheaded by world-class left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone. Charlie Dean's off-spin is a valuable addition to the spin-bowling lineup with Knight having the flexibility of spinners who can turn the ball both ways.
Dean claimed a three-fer in the final Women’s ODI when South Africa Women toured England. The Laurens Filer and Bell bring raw speed to unsettle the South African batters. Filer took two wickets against Ireland Women in her previous Women’s ODI series.
This third and final Women’s ODI between South Africa Women and England Women will be played as a day/night fixture. Both teams will fancy their chances of chasing under lights. The first game of this series was won by the side chasing. Both captains may want to chase a target.
With conditions set to be perfect for cricket, you can expect there to be a fine balance between bat and ball. The seam bowlers may be in the game with the swinging new ball. Once the ball starts to lose its shine, you can expect the batters to have a brilliant day where run-scoring is concerned. As one of the inland venues, the pitch may have pace and bounce in it. This could be an enjoyable surface to bat on, with a 230-plus score potentially on the cards.
Matchday weather is expected to be severely hot and slightly humid which will be good for batting. There is only a five percent chance of rain.
England struck back strongly after losing the first ODI and we think they are likely to end up winning the series as well. England Women’s win record in Potchefstroom is currently 100 percent. They will look forward to getting back to a ground where they have fond memories.
Bet on England Women to win this match.
