While both, Crawley and Duckett are excellent batsmen, their record as a pair against New Zealand isn’t the best. They have opened 4 times in Test matches against New Zealand and have failed to cross the 20-run mark in any of them. We, therefore, feel that they will not be able to get a good start here.
Bethell is making his Test debut in this series and has scored 2 half-centuries in his 2 matches. Seeing his good form, we are backing him to play well yet again.
Having won the Test series, England will look to make a clean sweep as it plays the 3rd and final match of this tour starting this Saturday. They will face New Zealand at the Seddon Park Stadium in Hamilton.
The two teams have faced each other in 114 matches to date. England is the dominant team with 54 wins compared to just 13 for New Zealand. 47 games ended in a draw.
This match will be live-streamed on the Sony Liv App and Prime video. One can also watch it live on the Sony Sports Network.
After winning a historic Test series against India, New Zealand became a firm contender to make it to the WTC finals. However, the team capitulated soon after and was unable to hold the fort at home. With the series already lost, they will play to salvage some of the lost reputations.
The batting has been a big let-down for the hosts in this series. The opening pair of Devon Conway and Tom Latham has struggled in both the matches played so far and are averaging less than 25 in 4 innings.
Conway is set to miss this match and could be replaced by Will Young, who was a key performer for the team in India. In the middle order, except for Kane Williamson, the batsmen have lacked consistency and more will be expected from Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, and Tom Blundell.
The bowling has been pretty average as well. Tim Southee is playing his farewell series but has managed to pick only 4 wickets. He is however likely to retain his place along with Matt Henry, who is the team’s leading wicket-taker, and Nathan Smith. William O’Rourke could be replaced by Mitchell Santner.
England has been clinical in its performance on this tour and has secured a historic series win in New Zealand after a gap of more than 15 years.
Powered by some brilliant performances by Harry Brook and Joe Root, England has performed better with the bat compared to the Black Caps. Brook has scored 2 centuries and a half-century and is the leading run-scorer of the tournament.
He has received excellent support from Root, Ollie Pope, and Jacob Bethell in the middle order. Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley are solid at the top of the order while skipper Ben Stokes adds depth to the batting.
England’s bowling has been consistent as well. Brydon Carse is the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 16 wickets, while Gus Atkinson was brilliant in the last match, picking up a hat-trick. They have received excellent support from Chris Woakes while Shoaib Bashir will be the slower bowler.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to field first.
The pitch at Seddon Park is good to bat in and has seen some high-scoring Test matches. The surface has plenty of grass and there will be some help for the seamers when the ball is new. However, things ease out as the match progresses and it gets easier to bat on. The average first-inning score here is 310.
The weather will remain cloudy for all 5 days and temperatures will be pleasant between 20 and 25 degrees.
New Zealand and England were evenly balanced when it came to the odds being offered by betting sites at the start of this tour. However, the visitors have dominated the proceedings and enter this match with plenty of confidence. The Black Caps will find it very hard to turn things around.
Bet on England to win.
