Shreyas Iyer has been in excellent form over the past few weeks. He has scored at least 29 runs in 5 of his last 6 innings, including 3 half-centuries. Seeing his good form, we are backing him to continue playing well
Ben Dwarshuis has picked up at least 3 wickets in each of his last two innings. The bowlers have enjoyed good success at his venue and we expect Dwarshuis to continue to bowl another good spell.
After a fast-paced group-stage that lasted 10 days, we have our four semifinalists in the ongoing Champions Trophy. India will take on Australia in the first semifinal on Tuesday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The winner of this match will face either New Zealand or South Africa in the Finals next Sunday.
The two teams have faced each other in 151 matches. Australia won 84 matches while India won 57. 9 matches ended without any result.
This match can be watched live on the JioHotstar App and Star Sports Network.
India has been in excellent form in this tournament, putting up clinical performances throughout the group stages. They have won each of their 3 matches so far and finished at the top of the points table in Group A.
India’s batting line-up has produced some scintillating performances in the last week. Shubman Gill has played a couple of good knocks at the top of the order, while Virat Kohli produced a masterclass in the match against Pakistan.
Shreyas Iyer has been in red-hot form ever since his return to the ODI format and has scored 2 half-centuries in his last 3 innings. However, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma haven’t been consistent in this tournament and the team will expect them to play better.
India’s biggest asset is the 3 world-class all-rounders in the form of Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja. Varun Chakravarthy picked up a fifer in the last match and could retain his place. The conditions in Dubai suit India very well as can be seen from 9-0 ODI record.
The key reason for that is the way that their spinners are able to strangle the opposition batters in the middle.
Australia has been rather unlucky so far as each of its last two matches was abandoned due to bad weather and they were forced to share points with the opposition. Thankfully, that did not affect the team’s fortunes and they made it through to the semifinals.
Matthew Short and Travis Head got the team off to a flying start in the last match and will hope to do the same in this match as well. Head was in a particularly belligerent form as he scored a half-century in 34 balls. If he gets going, Australia could lay a platform for a massive total.
Steve Smith said that Short may struggle to recover from his injury in time for the semi-final and if that is the case, we could see Jake Fraser-McGurk take his place.
The middle order has some quality batsmen including Alex Carey, Josh Inglis, and Steve Smith, while all-rounders Marnus Labuschagne and Glenn Maxwell will add depth to the batting. Australia will hope Smith and Labuschagne are able to rotate the strike while Maxwell, Inglis, and Carey are able to play their innovative shots to put off the Indian spinners.
Australia is sorely missing some of its most experienced seamers but Ben Dwarshuis has bowled well to pick up 6 wickets in two innings. He will be joined by Nathan Ellis and Spencer Johnson in the pace department. Adam Zampa remains the only full-time spinner on the squad and has picked up 4 wickets so far.
Australia is not a weak team in any condition and we absolutely expect it to come out swinging.
7 of the last 10 matches played here have been won while chasing. We are therefore expecting that the captain winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch in Dubai is very different from the ones that we have seen in Pakistan. The surface is much slower and the odd ball does keep low. The spinners have enjoyed plenty of success on this ground over the last few matches and we expect that trend to continue.
The batsmen will have to settle down before they can start playing the big shots. Anything over 260 will be difficult to chase.
The weather in Dubai will be clear with temperatures of around 24 degrees.
India and Australia are two of the best teams in this tournament and are among the favorites to lift the trophy. In the past, both these teams have produced some scintillating encounters and we expect another close game. We are backing India in winning this match as they have a strong and deep batting line-up with a strong spin attack.
This is going to be the first time that Australia plays in Dubai during the tournament and that could be tough to adapt to.
Bet on India to win.
