Iftikhar Ahmed has an excellent record in the BPL, averaging 57.14 per game. He scored 49 runs in the previous match, and we are backing him to play well here.
The Shere Bangla Stadium has a batting-friendly wicket. The surface provides the batsmen plenty of opportunities to score runs and we are expecting a good score from at least one batsman.
The Sylhet Strikers will begin their latest BPL campaign on Tuesday as they face the Rangpur Riders at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Dhaka.
The two teams have played in 11 matches. The Riders have won 9 while Sylhet has won only 2.
This match will be live-streamed on the FanCode App.
The Sylhet Strikers weren’t in the best of form last year, finishing 6th on the points table. As they begin a new journey, the team will hope to make a positive start.
While Sylhet has some international stars in its squad, the team will bank heavily on local talent to deliver the goods. Mashrafe Mortaza, one of the most consistent seamers in the BPL, is unlikely to play this year due to political instability in the country.
This means Tanzim Hasan Sakib will be the strike bowler for Sylhet and could be supported by Ruyel Miah or Al-Amin Hossain. Reece Topley could feature in the playing XI if he is deemed fit. Arafat Sunny is the specialist spinner on the squad.
Coming to the batting, skipper Rony Talukdar will play an important role along with Jaker Ali. Aaron Jones, Paul Stirling, and George Munsey are the 3 international stars who can play some big shots.
The Rangpur Riders began their campaign with an emphatic win over Dhaka Capitals. The win not only gave them two points but also boosted their NRR.
Steven Taylor and Alex Hales will open the batting for the team here. While the duo wasn’t in the best of forms on Monday, they are an explosive combination and could play an important role during the Powerplay.
Khushdil Shah was in a brilliant all-round form and scored 46 runs while also picking up 2 wickets. He received excellent support from Iftikhar Ahmed and Saif Hassan.
Nurul Hasan and Mahedi Hasan add depth to the batting. The latter also picked up 4 wickets and was the top bowler for the team. Nahid Rana and Mohammad Saifuddin will likely lead the attack with the new ball.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at the Shere Bangla Stadium is flat and hard. There are plenty of runs on this surface and the batsmen will enjoy playing their shots. The team batting first will look to score around 180 runs. The bowlers will get wickets if they pitch the ball in the right areas.
The weather will be clear with temperatures of around 21 degrees.
We are backing the Rangpur Riders to win this match. They were in excellent form in the last match and have a balanced team. Also, the Riders have an excellent record against Sylhet, giving them a psychological edge.
