The powerful Bangladeshi opening batter hit 41 runs off 36 balls against Rangpur previously. He would be worth betting on to make another decent start in this game.
This is a relatively safe bet, considering how they started their previous match. The Rangpur Riders started with nine runs in their first over against Fortune Barishal courtesy of five wides and a four.
The Sylhet Strikers have only experienced their loss to the same opposition this season. They have an opportunity to turn the tables. The Rangpur Riders have been brilliant to start their campaign with three wins from three matches. They seem likely to continue that momentum.
The head-to-head record between the Strikers and the Riders is heavily in favour of the away side. The Rangpur Riders have convincingly beaten the Sylhet Strikers in four of their last five meetings. The Strikers have won once.
Sylhet International Cricket Stadium will play host to the BPL match between Sylhet Strikers and Rangpur Riders on Monday, 6 January 2024. Live-streaming is available on the FanCode app for viewers in India.
The opening duo of Rony Talukdar and George Munsey is set to give a fiery start in the first six overs. Munsey’s ruthless aggressive stroke play and Talukdar’s reliability form a dangerous opening partnership. Talukdar top-scored with 41 runs against the Rangpur Riders previously.
Scotsman Munsey has two T20 centuries under his belt. Zakir Hasan and Paul Stirling add more depth to the top-order batting. Stirling’s wealth of experience and Hasan’s flair make them key performers in the middle overs.
Wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali provides stability in the middle order. The experienced Ali has 1184 T20 runs. Skipper Ariful Haque will look to anchor innings and guide his team with his all-round capabilities.
The presence of Afghan veteran Samiullah Shinwari strengthens the middle order with both bat and ball. The Afghan all-rounder has almost 2500 T20 runs and 60 T20 wickets.
In the bowling department, youngster Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Englishman Reece Topley form a lethal pace duo. Topley’s left-arm swing and variations complement Sakib’s youthful energy. They will keep the batters on their toes.
Nihaduzzaman is a crafty spinner. Local seamer Al-Amin Hossain rounds out a balanced bowling attack. Opening bowlers Sakib and Hossain each took two wickets in the previous match. Topley offered support to that with one wicket.
The experienced wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan will take charge of this unit. Alex Hales will face the music of the new white ball. He brings world-class T20 experience and the unique ability to hit all over the ground.
Partnering him is the young talent Azizul Hakim with fearless stroke play. The young left-hander has two T20 half-centuries. Right-hander Tawfique Khan offers stability after the opening partnership.
The core of the batting lineup includes Saif Hassan. His highest BPL score of 62 not out came in his previous innings. The young Bangladeshi is a technically sound batter. The hard-hitting Pakistani duo of Iftikhar Ahmed and Khushdil Shah follow him.
They have the potential to shift the gears. Shah also provided two wickets against the Strikers this season. Iftikhar Ahmed and Nurul Hasan both contributed with scores in the 40s when Rangpur last beat Sylhet. Mahedi Hasan is the all-rounder. He brings capable lower-order pinch-hitting and dependable right-arm off-spin.
Kamrul Islam and Akif Javed lead the pace-bowling lineup. They provide pace and aggression. Nahid Rana adds a variety of skills with his variations and use of pace to back up the work of Islam and Javed. Rana starred as the player-of-the-match when he last bowled to the Sylhet Strikers.
Mahedi Hasan may be used as the main wicket-taking threat of all the spinners.
Rangpur Riders elected to bat first in the previous match vs Sylhet Strikers. That choice brought them success when they played against Sylhet previously. They may opt for the same decision. The Sylhet Strikers could choose to bat first and taking learnings from how their opponents went about things.
You can expect the pitch for this day game to be quite dry and slow. The dryness of the pitch is not expected to get better with the weather leading up to the game. The spinners should be the key threat on this type of surface. Batters will need to be wary of how they choose their scoring shots, but it won’t be impossible to score runs. This is the first match in Sylhet for the 2025 BPL season.
The previous first innings score at this ground was 162 for seven in 20 overs by the Rangpur Riders.
Weather conditions will be extremely hot and humid on Monday. Overhead conditions will be clear and sunny too. There is no rain expected on the day either.
This match pits two teams with contrasting records this season against each other. The Strikers have only played once, but not started well. The Rangpur Riders have shown consistency after they beat the Strikers. The visitors have managed back-to-back-to-back wins, proving that their win in their opening game was not a fluke. The strong Rangpur outfit will be favored for another win.
Bet on Rangpur Riders to win this match.
