Khulna Tigers won by 37 runs against the Chittagong Kings when they met for the first time this season
William Bosisto has hit a purple patch with his form in recent weeks
Mehidy Hasan Miraz is one of the top all-rounders in Bangladesh cricket
This would be a highly suggested bet based on the Australian’s recent performances. Bosisto hit an unbeaten 75 runs when he last faced the Chittagong Kings.
This may be a decent bet worth putting money on. The Tigers achieved a score of 47 for three after six overs against Sylhet Strikers. They may look to take the game forward by playing positively, but they will also need to navigate an opposition with troublesome bowlers.
Both teams have experienced a mixed campaign where results are concerned. They may need to start lifting their squad’s spirits to find consistent results. Khulna Tigers won their match against the Kings which may help them going into this head-to-head.
The Tigers and Kings have met before earlier this season. That one head-to-head resulted in the Khulna Tigers winning by 37 runs.
Khulna Tigers and Chittagong Kings meet again for this BPL clash on Thursday, 16 January 2025 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. The game can be viewed in India via the live-streaming on the FanCode app.
Mohammad Naim and Darwish Rasooli will look to provide solid starts as the opening batting pair. Naim showed his true capabilities with a half-century versus Rangpur Riders. The dynamic captain and all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will walk in after them. He hit 39 runs against Rangpur.
The young and explosive Afif Hossain will look to crash the ball over the boundary in the middle overs. The 25-year-old has five BPL half-centuries. Wicketkeeper-batter Mahidul Islam Ankon adds depth to the batting lineup and can play the finisher's role if needed.
Veteran batter Imrul Kayes adds experience in the middle order and is likely to float up and down the order depending on the situation. The Tigers are fortunate to have such a lengthy batting lineup that they have a batter with 15 T20 half-centuries walking in at number seven.
The Tigers boast an impressive spin attack with the left-arm spin of both Nasum Ahmed and the versatile Mohammad Nawaz. Nawaz has more than 3000 runs and more than 200 wickets in T20s. Miraz’s all-round prowess will be pivotal in both departments as an extra spinner and batter.
Hasan Mahmud and Abu Hider bring pace to the attack. They took two wickets each in their previous bowling innings. Pakistani Salman Irshad adds variety as a strike bowler.
Opening the batting are the powerful duo of Usman Khan and Parvez Hossain Emon. The duo are two batters with sound knowledge of playing in the subcontinent. Khan hit a calm and composed half-century against the Sylhet Strikers. Graham Clark, the dynamic English batter, brings stability in the middle order as a consistent batter.
In the same innings as Usman Khan, Graham Clark hit a stunning 60 runs at a strike rate of almost 200. Skipper Mohammad Mithun will also take charge of the wicketkeeping gloves. Mithun's leadership and composure with the bat will be key in guiding the team through tricky phases.
The middle order features the flamboyant Shamim Hossain and Pakistan’s Haider Ali. Young Hossain has almost 1500 T20 runs with almost 700 of those in the BPL. Both young batters are able to rapidly change the momentum of the game.
All-rounder Mohammad Wasim adds depth to the lineup, providing power hitting and crucial overs with the ball. The bowling all-rounder has played for the Chittagong Kings, Khulna Tigers and Fortune Barishal in the BPL.
In the bowling department, left-arm quick Shoriful Islam leads the pace attack alongside fellow countryman Khaled Ahmed. Fast bowler Ahmed has more than 50 wickets in the BPL. Al Islam and veteran Nabil Samad add spin variety.
Left-arm spinner Samad has outrageous best bowling figures of three wickets for one run in T20s.
Chittagong Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first in their first encounter against Khulna Tigers this season. Despite the result going the way of the team batting first, both teams may have felt that was the correct decision. They could be confident enough to choose to bowl first in this game too.
This will be the first day of BPL fixtures at Chattogram. You can expect the pitch to be fresh having not had much cricket on it yet. The fast bowlers could enjoy using the new ball with swing and seam movement. The batters may enjoy batting under lights with the ball coming onto the bat nicely.
There may be a slight bit of turn for the spinners in the dry conditions, but the spin may become more pronounced as more games are played in Chattogram.
Conditions at the venue will be mostly sunny. Temperatures will be soaring at almost 30 degrees Celsius with a high level of humidity too. There is no chance of rain on matchday.
History may put the Khulna Tigers as slight favourites to edge this game. They won the previous head-to-head. The Tigers and Kings have both had their moments of brilliance this season, but have lacked consistency. We think the Tigers have a slight edge in this contest thanks to the imp[movement in the form of their key players.
Bet on the Khulna Tigers to win.
