The opening runs of this year’s tournament came off the bat of Mohammad Haris when he hit two runs against the bowling of countryman Shaheen Shah Afridi. You can bet on either team scoring their first runs as neither a single nor four runs.
The left-handed Bangladeshi batter has played at the highest level for his country. He also has 15 half-centuries at T20 level. It would be worth betting on Kayes.
The Capitals will be looking to completely scrap their 2024 fortunes. The experience of captain Thisara Perera will serve them well. The Khulna Tigers will have the comfort of winning both games against their opponents last season. You can expect a brilliant game.
Dhaka and Khulna met twice in the 2024 BPL season. Khulna Tigers won both matches by chasing. Khulna Tigers also finished fifth on the 2024 BPL table compared to Durdanto Dhaka (as they were known last season) who finished in seventh.
Dhaka Capitals meet Khulna Tigers at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Friday, 3 January 2025 for this BPL clash. The FanCode app offers the live-streaming option for the Indian viewers.
Litton Das takes charge of the wicketkeeping gloves and the opening batting spot. His quick scoring sets the tone at the top. The experienced wicketkeeper-batter has almost 5000 T20 runs. Tanzid Hasan is one of Bangladesh’s finest young talents coming through.
The young gun will look to push up the run rate in the powerplay. In the middle-order, Stephen Eskinazi brings solidity as a perennial run-scorer. He will show his class with a touch of finesse in his scoring shots. Habibur Rahman Sohan adds depth to the batting options of the Dhaka Capitals.
He will need to rotate strike and clear the boundaries to continue the momentum of the batters in front of him.
Sri Lankan Thisara Perera is the captain and an all-round maestro. He will be key in every aspect of the team’s performance on the field. His leadership coupled with explosive batting and deceptive medium pace will be at the forefront of this team.
The Sri Lankan all-rounder has more than 4600 runs and more than 270 wickets in his T20 career. Farmanullah and Alauddin Babu bolster the batting depth and offer versatile bowling options for Perera to use. Afghan all-rounder Farmanullah has a T20 batting high score of 53 not out.
The bowling unit is led by Mustafizur Rahman. His pinpoint yorkers and deceptive variations in the death overs will make him a threat. Mukidul Islam boasts raw pace and spinner Amir Hamza brings consistency. The Afghan spinner has almost 90 T20 wickets.
Nazmul Islam rounds off the attack with his clever left-arm spin, ensuring the team has all bases covered. The Bangladeshi bowler has more than 80 wickets in T20s.
Opening the batting are the reliable duo of Mohammad Naim and William Bosisto. Their foundation in the powerplay will give the Tigers the freedom to player their shots throughout the innings. Bosisto showed his temperament with a fine 75 runs not out off 50 balls.
Naim has one century and 12 half-centuries in T20 cricket. The middle-order is anchored by captain and all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz. His all-round presence will mean that Khulna won’t be out of the game until the final ball is bowled. Ibrahim Zadran is another reliable middle-order batter.
Adding firepower is hard-hitter Afif Hossain. He is also adaptable enough to play each situation on its merit. Wicketkeeper-batter Mahidul Islam Ankon offers stability and agility. He showed his brute force against the Chittagong Kings with an unbeaten 59 runs off only 22 balls.
The bowling attack is diverse with spin maestros Nasum Ahmed and Mohammad Nawaz. Their speciality is choking the opposition for runs and taking wickets in crucial moments. The pace unit features the fiery Oshane Thomas, Hasan Mahmud and Abu Hider.
Hider took a brilliant four wickets against Chittagong. Nawaz backed that up with his own two wickets. The rest of the bowlers all took one wicket in their previous game.
This match will be played as a night game, so both captains may factor in the effect of dew at night. All eight tosses of the opening phase of the 2024 BPL for the Mirpur leg ended in captains wanting to bowl first. That may happen again in this game.
The Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka typically offers a balanced pitch for night T20 matches. The seam bowlers will need to make the most of the new ball in the powerplay. There may be some assistance for spinners due to the dryness of the pitch. Dew can play a significant role in the second innings. It will be easier for batters to chase under lights.
The average first innings score for night games in Mirpur for the opening phase of BPL 2024 was 162 runs.
There is a ten percent chance of rain during the game. Temperatures will be moderate to cool at night, but will still feel humid.
Dhaka Capitals have won this tournament on three instances. They have a title-winning formula in the franchise. Last year was one of their few unsuccessful years. We believe that the presence of some strong experienced players can give Dhaka the advantage.
Bet on Dhaka Capitals to win this match.
