Tanveer Sangha has picked up 48 wickets in his BBL career at an average of 18.43. As the pitch in Sydney does help the spinners, Sangha could bowl a good spell.
Konstas is making his BBL debut this season and started with a half-century. He has been in good form of late and scored a century against India earlier this month while playing for PM’s XI. Seeing his good form, we are backing Konstas to play a good knock.
It’s time for the first Sydney Smash of the season as the Sydney Sixers take on neighbors Sydney Thunder in match number 8 of the ongoing Big Bash League. The two teams will face off at the Sydney Showdown Ground on Saturday.
The two teams have faced each other in 24 matches to date. The Sixers have dominated the proceedings with 17 wins compared to 7 for the Thunder.
This match will be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App. One can also watch it live on the Star Sports Network.
Like their cross-town opponents, Sydney Thunder also began its campaign with a win. However, it was a closely fought one against the Adelaide Strikers.
Sydney Thunder will bank on its strong batting unit to deliver the goods. With David Warner available for the entire season, the opening pair looks solid and can score briskly during the powerplay. Sam Konstas, making his BBL debut this year, was in excellent form in the opening match as he scored a half-century in just 20 deliveries.
Veterans Cameron Bancroft, Oliver Davies, and Sam Billings make up the middle order, while all-rounders Sherfane Rutherford and Daniel Sams play the role of finishers. Tanveer Sangha and Chris Green were in excellent form with the ball as they picked up 5 wickets between them.
Lockie Ferguson and Nathan McAndrew will start the proceedings with the ball.
The Sixers began their season with a clinical performance on Monday when they convincingly defeated the Melbourne Renegades. The team will look to keep up the momentum and score another win here.
The Sixers are home to a star-studded batting unit of hard-hitters like James Vince, Jack Edwards, Josh Philippe, and Moises Henriques. Barring Philippe, all the other batsmen scored runs in the previous match and seemed to be in fine form.
In a bit of unsettling news, Daniel Hughes has aggravated his injury and is likely to miss the rest of the season. He could be replaced by Kurtis Patterson, who was in a purple patch during the recent Sheffield Shield tournament.
Coming to the bowling, the Sixers have a pace-heavy attack of Ben Dwarshuis, Sean Abbott, and Hayden Kerr, while Toss Murphy and Joel Davies will feature in the spin department.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.
The pitch at the Sydney Showdown Ground is good to bat on. The surface is flat and offers good pace and bounce. The quicker bowlers will get some help early on in the match but once the batsmen settle down, playing shots will be easy. The par score here is around 180. The surface does slow down in the second half, helping the spinners.
The weather will be clear with temperatures of around 25 degrees.
The Sydney Smash is one of the most awaited duels in the BBL and we are expecting a fierce contest between the two teams. We feel that the Sydney Thunder has an edge here due to a strong batting unit and a balanced bowling attack.
Bet on Sydney Thunder to win.
