The opening pair of Melbourne Renegades hasn’t been consistent this year. They have failed to put up a partnership of 19 or more runs in the last 2 games. As they face a strong pace attack from Thunder, we feel they will again struggle in this match.
Warner hasn’t been in the best of form this season. He is averaging 14.33 in his 3 innings, and his highest score so far is 19. We are, therefore, predicting another mediocre outing for him.
The Melbourne Renegades will look to strengthen their position in the top half of the points table as they face the Sydney Thunder on Monday. The two teams will play at the Sydney Showdown Stadium.
To date, the two teams have faced each other in 17 matches. The Melbourne Renegades have won 10, while Sydney Thunder have won 7.
This match can be watched live on the Disney+ Hotstar App and Star Sports Network.
Sydney Thunder come into this match after a clinical win against Melbourne Stars. They are currently placed fourth on the points table.
With Sam Konstas unavailable for the next few matches, Cameron Bancroft has been promoted to the top of the order where he joins David Warner. The duo gave the team a solid start on Saturday and will look to do the same in this match as well.
While Bancroft has played a couple of good knocks, Warner has yet to put his best foot forward. Sam Billings was in a punishing mood in the match against the Stars where he smashed 72 runs from just 39 deliveries. He, along with Jason Sangha, Oliver Davies, and Sherfane Rutherford makes up a solid middle order, while Chris Green and Daniel Sams will play the role of a finisher.
Coming to the bowling, Wes Agar will join Lockie Ferguson in the new-ball attack, while Tom Andrews and Chris Green will feature in the spin department.
After losing their first match, the Melbourne Renegades have staged a strong comeback and have won each of their last two matches.
The bowling has been one of the key drivers of the Renegades’ good performance so far. The pace attack made up of Fergus O Neill, Will Sutherland, Tom Rogers, and Kane Richardson has picked up 19 wickets among themselves, with Rogers being among the top wicket-takers of the tournament.
Adam Zampa, who is the solitary spinner, hasn’t picked up many wickets but has been economical. The batting from the Renegades hasn’t been consistent and that is something they will need to work on.
Barring Tim Seifert, who is averaging 60.00, none of the batsmen have been impressive. Josh Brown and Jake Fraser-McGurk are both capable of playing the big shots during the PowerPlay and will be eager to score some runs here.
As the team lacks batting depth, there will be added pressure on Mackenzie Harvey and Laurie Evans to score runs.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at the Sydney Showground Stadium isn’t the easiest to bat on. The average first-inning score here is around 150 runs. The seamers will get plenty of movement here thanks to an even covering of grass. Things do get slightly better as the ball gets older but the batsmen will have to choose their shots wisely.
The weather will likely be cloudy with temperatures of around 25 degrees.
Both teams have a few weaknesses and haven’t been perfect in their journey so far. While this is a difficult match to call, we feel that Sydney Thunder has a slight edge thanks to a stronger and deeper batting line-up. Also, playing at home will be an advantage for them.
Bet on Sydney Thunder to win.
