The bowlers will have to work hard to pick up wickets at the SCG. None of the last 3 games played here have seen 14 or more wickets fall and we are expecting that trend to continue.
Steve Smith has been in red-hot form on his return to the BBL. He has scored a century and a half-century in his two innings this season and we are expecting another good knock from him.
The second Sydney Smash of the ongoing BBL will be held on Friday as Sydney Sixers take on Sydney Thunder for what will be the last group-stage match for both teams. The game will be played at the SCG.
The two teams have faced each other in 25 games so far. Sydney Sixers have won 18 while Sydney Thunder have won 7.
This match can be watched live on the Disney+ Hotstar App and Star Sports Network.
With 13 points from 9 matches, the Sydney Sixers are currently at the top of the points table and have already qualified for the next stage. They will now look to win here to ensure a top-two finish.
Powered by another brilliant knock from Steve Smith, the Sydney Sixers scored their 6th win of the season by defeating the Adelaide Strikers on Wednesday. With this being his last match before he leaves to join the international squad, Smith will hope to put up another match-winning performance.
Josh Philippe has been another strong performer at the top of the order while skipper Moises Henriques has lent heft to the middle order. In addition, the Sixers will depend on Jordan Silk and Jack Edwards to score runs during the middle overs.
Coming to the bowling, Ben Dwarshuis and Sean Abbott have been the team’s most dependable bowlers and have picked up 22 wickets between them. They will be joined by Hayden Kerr in the seam department.
Todd Murphy has bowled a couple of decent spells and will have Jafer Chohan to support him during the middle overs.
Despite being a bit inconsistent this season, Sydney Thunder has done enough to collect 11 points and have qualified for the playoffs.
David Warner and Sam Konstas will again open the batting for Thunder in this match. Konstas scored an excellent half-century on a tricky surface on Monday to take his team to a good score. He has scored 2 half-centuries in his 4 BBL innings and is in fine touch.
While Sam Billings and Matthew Gilkes have played well in patches, Sydney Thunder is struggling to fill in for the injured duo of Cameron Bancroft and Daniel Sams as George Garton and Hugh Weibgen have struggled during the middle overs.
Tom Andrews did an excellent job with the bat and the ball as he scored 37 runs in just 13 deliveries and also picked up a wicket.
Joining him in the spin department is Chris Green, who is the team’s leading wicket-taker with 11 wickets, and Tanveer Sangha, while Mohammad Hasnain and Nathan McAndrew will start the attack with the new ball.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.
The pitch at the SCG is good to bat on and the venue has seen some high-scoring matches. There is a good amount of pace and bounce and the pitch remains true throughout the match. However, the ball might skid under the lights. With the batting prowess that both teams possess, we might be looking at another high-scoring game.
However, the weather may play spoilsport as overcast conditions are predicted for Friday with showers throughout the day.
We are backing Sydney to win this match. They have been clinical in their performance and have done well on all fronts. Also, they have a good record against the Thunder, giving them a psychological advantage.
Bet on the Sydney Sixers to win.
