The pitch at the Perth Stadium is good to bat on and provides plenty of opportunities to score. Five of the last eight BBL matches played at this venue have seen at least 305 runs scored, and as both teams have some strong batsmen, we are expecting a high-scoring game.
Connolly is the leading run-scorer of the season with 144 runs. He has scored 2 half-centuries in his last 3 innings. He has an average of 35 against Brisbane and we are backing him to play well.
Brisbane Heat will look to continue its unbeaten run in the ongoing BBL as it faces the Perth Scorchers on Boxing Day. The game will be played on Thursday at the Perth Stadium.
The two teams have played 23 matches against each other. The Scorchers have won 15 while Brisbane Heat have won 8.
This match will be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App. One can also watch it live on the Star Sports Network.
The Perth Scorchers started off with a win but have seen their form dip. They are coming into this contest on the back of consecutive losses.
The opening pair of Finn Allen and Keaton Jennings hasn’t been in the best of forms and has struggled to give the team a good start. Allen is going through a particularly rough patch and is averaging just over 3 runs in his 3 innings.
Cooper Connolly on the other hand has played brilliantly, scoring 2 half-centuries and is the leading run-scorer of the tournament. He has also picked up a couple of wickets. The others in the middle order include Josh Inglis, Ashton Turner, Matthew Spoors, and Nick Hobson but they have yet to play a meaningful knock.
On the bowling front, the unavailability of Jhye Richardson has left a dent in the pace attack and the Scorchers will rely on Jason Behrendorff and Andrew Tye to deliver the goods. Ashton Agar will retain his place despite picking up only 2 wickets.
Brisbane has picked up from where it left last season and has won both matches. They are currently placed 2nd on the points table.
Jimmy Peirson is in excellent form at the top of the order and is the leading run-scorer for his team. He will be joined by Colin Munro at the top of the order. Matthew Renshaw and Nathan McSweeney make up a strong middle order. They struck individual half-centuries in the last match to guide their team to an easy victory.
Max Bryant and Paul Walter haven’t had much work to do. The Brisbane team does lack depth in its batting.
The bowling has been another highlight of Heat’s performance so far. Xavier Bartlett is the leading wicket-taker for the team with 4 wickets and is ably supported by Will Prestwidge and Tom Whitney in the pace department.
The team also has two quality spinners, Mitchell Swepson and Matthew Kuhnemann.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The Perth Stadium offers plenty of pace and bounce for the fast bowlers. The surface is hard and flat and remains true throughout the match. Once the batsmen settle down, playing shots will get easier. The team batting first will look to score at least 180 runs here.
The weather will remain clear with temperatures of around 21 degrees.
The Perth Scorchers and Brisbane Heat are among the strongest teams in the league and we are expecting a close contest between them in this match. Looking at the way both teams have performed this season, we feel that Brisbane has an edge.
Bet on Perth Scorchers to win.
