The Perth Stadium is historically a high-scoring ground. The average aggregate score in the last 3 matches here is over 350. We are therefore expecting another high-scoring encounter.
As mentioned earlier, the pitch at Perth is good to bat on. As both teams have some clean strikers of the ball, we are expecting at least 1 big over.
Matthew Short and D’Arcy Short form one of the most consistent opening pairs of this season. On the other hand, with Steve Eskinazi injured and Sam Whiteman in poor form, the Scorchers are likely to struggle to find a stable opening pair.
The Perth Scorchers are all set to face the Adelaide Strikers in a Knockout match on Saturday. The loser will be eliminated from the BBL, while the winner will face either the Brisbane Heat or the Sydney Sixers in the Challenger on Monday.
Both teams have played 24 matches against each other so far. The Perth Scorchers have won 13 of them, while the Adelaide Strikers have won 11.
This match can be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App or can be watched live on the Star Sports Network.
The Perth Scorchers did make it to the playoffs but will be a tad bit disappointed with the 3rd place finish. A shock loss against the Sixers at home meant that the team would now have to pass through two knockout games to make it to the finals.
The team has plenty of issues to contend with before the start of this game. Laurie Evans, who is the team’s second-highest run-getter this season, is no longer available for selection due to his ILT20 commitments, while Stevie Eskinazi is nursing an injury, and updates regarding his availability are being awaited.
This will put immense pressure on the Scorchers’ batting resources as they have been forced to recall Marcus Harris, who played for the franchise back in 2016. There will be plenty of pressure on Aaron Hardie and Josh Inglis to score runs.
Cooper Connolly, who had a relatively quiet season so far, has finally struck some form and will likely play the role of a finisher. The Scorchers have a strong bowling attack that will hold the key for them. Jason Behrendorff is the leading wicket-taker for the team and has received good support from Lance Morris and Andrew Tye, who have 24 wickets against their name.
Ashton Agar is the specialist spinner on the team.
The Adelaide Strikers endured a poor start to their campaign but fought back strongly towards the end to clinch the 4th spot on the table. They are coming into this contest on the back of 4 consecutive wins and will look to build up on that momentum.
Skipper Matthew Short will be the key player for the Strikers in this match. He is the leading run-getter of this season with 509 runs and has also picked up 4 wickets. He will be joined by D’Arcy Short as his opening partner and together, they will look to get a strong start.
Just like the Scorchers, the Strikers too will be grappling with selection issues. Chris Lynn, who is the third-highest run-scorer of the season, and Jamie Overton, who is the joint-highest wicket-taker, are both unavailable for this game.
The team is likely to include all-rounder James Bazley in the playing eleven to add depth to its batting. Coming to the bowling, all eyes will be on David Payne and Henry Thornton, who have 14 wickets between them, while Cameron Boyce will lead the spin attack.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at Perth is pace-friendly as it offers plenty of bounce and pace. The new ball nips around generating plenty of opportunities to pick wickets. However, the pitch gets better to bat as the ball gets older and we can expect a high-scoring encounter. There is limited help on offer for the spinners.
The weather is expected to be clear with temperatures of around 25 degrees.
Both teams have done well to reach the playoffs and we can expect a close match between the two. We feel that the Perth Scorchers have a slight advantage here. They have plenty of experience playing in the knockouts and can handle the pressure better compared to the Strikers.
Bet on the Perth Scorchers to win.
