Jake Fraser-McGurk and Josh Brown haven’t been in the best of forms this season. The duo has crossed the 20-run mark just once in their last 4 matches and we expect their poor run to continue.
Mackenzie Harvey hasn’t been in the best of forms this year and is averaging 11.25 in 5 innings. His highest score in those 5 matches is 11. As he faces a relatively strong bowling attack, he is unlikely to make a big score.
The first Melbourne Derby of this season is set to take place on Saturday as the Melbourne Renegades take on Melbourne Stars at the MCG.
The two teams have faced each other in 26 matches. The Renegades have won 10, while the Stars have won 16.
This match will be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App and Star Sports Network.
After 5 consecutive losses, the Melbourne Stars managed to turn things around on Wednesday as they defeated Brisbane Heat by 5 wickets. However, they are still at the bottom of the table and will be desperate to climb up the ladder.
Dan Lawrence, who was playing his first match of the season, put up an all-round show, scoring 64 runs and also picked up a wicket. The partnership between Lawrence and Marcus Stoinis, who scored 62 runs, was crucial in the Stars’ maiden victory.
Ben Duckett’s form has seen a dip in the last couple of games. His opening partnership with Thomas Rogers will hold the key for the team here. Sam Harper, Glenn Maxwell, and Hilton Cartwright have struggled to play the big shots during the death overs and that has cost the team a few games.
The bowlers haven’t been consistent either. Peter Siddle remains the leading wicket-taker for the team with 6 wickets and will be joined by Mark Steketee and Joel Paris in the pace department.
Usama Mir, who is the team’s best spinner, has managed to pick up only 4 wickets in 3 games.
The Melbourne Renegades started off well but back-to-back losses this week have set them back. The team has slipped down to the 5th place on the table. With half the season still to go, the Renegades will look to turn things around.
While the poor form of their star batsman, Jake Fraser-McGurk remains a concern for the Renegades, they will be relieved to see his opening partner Josh Brown score a half-century on Thursday, albeit for a losing cause.
Tim Seifert has played a couple of impressive knocks in the middle order but his form has seen a dip as well. Laurie Evans, Mackenzie Harvey, and Jacob Bethell will need to show more consistency going ahead.
The bowlers have fared better compared to the batsmen. Tom Rogers is the joint-highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 10 wickets and has been well-supported by Will Sutherland and Fergus O Neill.
Adam Zampa bowled well in the last match to pick up 2 wickets and will be a key bowler for the Renegades in the middle overs.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at the MCG offers plenty of help for the fast bowlers during the start of the match. There is an even covering of grass and the ball seams a bit. However, once the batsmen settle down, playing shots will get easier. Also, the surface eases out a bit in the second half. The team batting first will look to score at least 180 runs to give their bowlers a chance.
The weather will remain overcast with temperatures of over 25 degrees.
Both the teams aren’t in the best of forms and will be eager to score 2 points here. While there is no clear favorite, we are backing the Renegades to win thanks to a strong pace attack and depth in batting.
Bet on the Melbourne Renegades to win.
