The MCG provides the batsmen plenty of opportunities to score runs. Each of the last 2 BBL matches played here has seen more than 303 runs scored and we are expecting the trend to continue.
Munro is one of the most consistent batsmen for Brisbane. He has an average of 34.05. He has scored 237 runs against the Stars at an average of 79.00 and we are backing him to play another good knock in this match.
Brisbane Heat will begin its latest BBL campaign on Wednesday as it takes on the Melbourne Stars. The two teams will clash at the iconic MCG.
The two teams have faced each other in 19 matches to date. Brisbane won 12 while the Stars have managed to win 7.
This match will be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App. One can also watch it live on the Star Sports Network.
The Melbourne Stars didn’t have the best of starts to the latest season as they were defeated by the Perth Scorchers in the season-opener. They will look to turn things and get back to winning ways.
A lot will depend on the opening pair of Joe Clarke and Thomas Rogers. They were unable to give the team a strong start on Sunday and hope to do better here. The Stars have included plenty of all-rounders in the squad including skipper Marcus Stoinis, Hilton Cartwright, Beau Webster, and Tom Curran.
They not only give depth to the batting unit but also provide variety to the bowling department. The spin department seems a bit understaffed with Hamish McKenzie being the only slow bowler. The pace attack consists of Peter Siddle, Adam Milne, and Brody Couch.
They are pretty experienced in the league and can make a big impact on the proceedings.
Brisbane Heat are the defending champions of this season. This will be their first match of the latest edition and they will hope to make a winning start.
Brisbane is plagued with availability issues for this match and it will likely be a much different team from the one that featured in the last year’s finals. Usman Khawaja, Nathan McSweeney, Marnus Labuschagne, Spencer Johnson, and Michael Neser are all unavailable for selection.
That said, there is still plenty of talent in the team. Colin Munro will lead the team in this game and will open the batting. He could be joined by Jimmy Pierson or Max Bryant. The middle order is likely to be made up of Matt Renshaw, Paul Walter, Tom Alsop, and Jake Wildermuth.
In the absence of Johnson and Neser, Xavier Bartlett will lead the pace department and will be joined by Will Prestwidge. Matthew Kuhnemann and Mitchell Swepson will feature in the spin attack.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at the MCG is balanced and we are likely to see a good contest between the bat and the ball. The average first-inning score here is around 160. The new ball will help the faster bowlers get some movement off the seam and the batsmen will need to be careful early in the game. However, as the ball gets older, it gets easier to bat. The spinners will have to be disciplined.
The weather will remain clear with temperatures of around 20 degrees.
While Brisbane Heat will not be playing to its 100% strength, they still have enough quality players who can see them through. The Melbourne Stars aren’t in the best of forms and are likely to struggle.
