There is plenty of help for the bowlers at the Simonds Stadium. Each of the last 3 BBL matches played at this venue has seen 13 or more wickets fall. We are expecting that pattern to continue.
McDermott has an excellent record in the BBL and has scored 2557 runs for the Hobart Hurricanes at an average of 35.02. He also has a brilliant record against the Renegades and has scored 599 runs in 12 innings against them, including 2 centuries and 3 half-centuries.
Melbourne Renegades will look to get back to winning ways as they take on the Hobart Hurricanes in the ongoing Big Bash League. The two teams will clash on Thursday at the Simonds Stadium in Geelong.
The two teams have faced each other in 19 matches to date. The Hurricanes have a slight edge with 11 wins compared to 8 for the Renegades.
This match will be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App. One can also watch it live on the Star Sports Network.
The Renegades weren’t in the best of forms in their opening fixture as they were overpowered by Sydney Sixers. However, these are still early days in the tournament and the team will look to mend its ways soon.
The Renegades have a strong opening pair in the form of Jake Fraser-McGurk and Josh Brown. Both of them are capable of playing the big shots and will look to score maximum runs during the Powerplay. Tim Seifert looked in excellent form on Monday as he smashed a half-century in just 39 deliveries.
The middle order could be a potential weakness for the Renegades as Laurie Evans and Mackenzie Harvey aren’t in the best of forms with the bat. Will Sutherland, who is the new captain of the team, put up an excellent all-round performance, scoring 36 runs and also picking up 2 wickets.
The pace attack of the Renegades seems pretty strong after the inclusion of Kane Richardson as he joins Fergus O Neill and Thomas Rogers. Adam Zampa will spearhead the spin department.
The Hobart Hurricanes have failed to make it to the playoffs in each of the last two seasons. They hope to make a positive start this year and put up a better performance going forward.
The Hobart Hurricanes have retained most of the players from the last season with the exception of Sam Heazlett and Liam Guthrie. The batting unit is quite strong thanks to players like Matthew Wade, Ben McDermott, and Tim David. They will be joined by Shai Hope in the middle order. The batting depth will also be increased by the inclusion of Jake Doran and Charlie Wakim.
Nikhil Chaudhary is likely to be featured in playing XI as a spinner. He can also hit the ball a long way in the death overs. The Hurricanes have also retained Chris Jordan along with Billy Stanlake, Riley Meredith, Nathan Ellis, and Iain Carlisle.
This is a strong T20 squad that is well-balanced and should be able to make a strong run towards the BBL Playoffs.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at Simonds Stadium provides plenty of help to the bowlers, particularly the quicker bowlers. The surface is firm with plenty of bounce and the new ball will swing quite a bit. The pitch does slightly better to bat on as the match progresses but we are unlikely to see a high-scoring game. The average first-inning score here is around 135.
The weather is likely to be clear with temperatures of around 20 degrees.
We are backing the Hobart Hurricanes to win this match. They have a strong batting unit with plenty of depth and also a well-rounded bowling attack that is heavy on pace. On the other hand, the Renegades’ middle order looks a bit weak and could find it difficult to get going.
Bet on Hobart Hurricanes to win.
