Even though the Bellerive Oval is a high-scoring venue, teams tend to play more conservatively in 'big' matches. Also, even 300 runs were not scored in total when the Hurricanes played the Sixers earlier this season.
Mitchell Owen is the leading run-scorer for the Hurricanes and has an average of 38.57 this season. He has scored at least 22 runs in 5 of his last 6 innings and seeing his good form, we are backing him to play a good innings here.
The Hobart Hurricanes will play the Qualifier against the Sydney Sixers as the Big Bash season draws to a close. There is no doubt that these two teams are the best in the league this season and deserve their place. A place in the BBL Final is up for grab and we have no doubt that this is going to be an exciting match.
The two teams have played 19 matches against each other. The Hurricanes have won 10 with 9 being won by the Sixers. Recent history is in favor of the Sixers, though, who have won three out of the most recent four matches against the Hurricanes.
This match can be watched live on the Disney+ Hotstar App and Star Sports Network.
Mitch Ownen has been absolutely outstanding for the Hobart Hurricanes this season. he has scored 308 runs at a strike rate of nearly 187 with 22 sixes to his name. His runs have made a match-winning impact, which is something to consider as abettor. He bats at the top of the order where he can face the maximum possible deliveries.
It is not just about Owen, though. Tim David and Nikhil Chaudhary have scored runs in most matches while Matthew Wade, Caleb Jewell, and even Brian McDermott have played a few useful cameos. The fact that the lower order stood up and helped the Hurricanes get over the line against the Renegades in their previous match will give them a lot of confidence.
As far as batting goes, the Hurricanes have a definite advantage.
The bowling unit for the Hobart Hurricanes is very good also. The skipper, Nathan Ellis, will come in and bowl during the tough phases with his mix of slower balls and yorkers while Billy Stanlake and Riley Meredith combine for raw pace.
Tim David, Nikhil Chaudhary, and Peter Hatzglou are other players that could roll their arm over in this match. While the Hurricanes have a decent bowling lineup, this is not a unit that is going to blow the opposition away.
The most successful team in the history of the Big Bash finds itself in a position to make yet another Final! It is remarkable how so many things can change but the presence of the Sixers in the playoffs always seems to be constant.
Here is the thing, though. We don't think the Sixers are as strong as they have been in previous years. Their batting is not as strong and they have made a lot more errors during the course of the season. They have still found a way to win, though, and that is what makes them so dangerous.
Steve Smith has joined the team and is dominating T20 cricket with ease! He is a big match player and his presence at the top of the lineup is going to be crucial. Henriques and Philippe are the other two batters that need to perform otherwise we think the Sixers will fall short of batting firepower.
This dependence on just a few players for the majority of their runs will force them to be a bit more conservative and will always leave the Hurricanes a chance of making a comeback.
Sean Abbott and Ben Dwarshius will lead the bowling lineup with support from Hayden Kerr. Abbott has the experience and the skill needed to adjust his game but we feel that the rest of the Sixers lineup could suffer in some batting-friendly conditions.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first. Getting runs on the board is always an advantage in an important game like this.
The pitch at the Bellerive Oval is one of the best for batters in Australia. The outfield is fast and the pitch has a nice amount of carry. It allows the pacers to have a say but the batters can score very quickly once they get their eye in. The small boundaries also end up favoring the big-hitters. A score of something around 170 can be seen as par.
The weather is likely to remain cloudy with temperatures of around 25 degrees.
The Sydney Sixers have historically been very good in crunch matches. This time, though, we think the Hobart Hurricanes are quite clearly the better team. They are also playing in home conditions and have the player of the tournament so far, Mitch Owen, in their lineup.
Bet on the Hobart Hurricanes to win.
