Jhye Richardson has picked up 97 wickets in his BBL career at an average of 20.46. He has picked up 13 wickets in 8 matches against Hobart and we reckon he will bowl well at this venue.
Connolly has been a consistent batsman in the BBL, with an average of 32.22 in 13 innings. He scored a half-century in the previous match and seems to be in fine form. He could play a good knock here.
The Hobart Hurricanes will be searching for their first win of the season as they host the Perth Scorchers this weekend in the ongoing BBL. The two teams will clash on Saturday at the Bellerive Oval.
To date, the two teams have played 20 matches. The Scorchers have won 13, while the Hurricanes have won 7.
This match will be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App. One can also watch it live on the Star Sports Network.
The Hobart Hurricanes didn’t have the best of starts to their campaign as they faced a massive defeat at the hands of Melbourne Renegades on Thursday. It has not only cost them 2 points but has also left a big dent in their NRR.
The loss could be dismissed as a one-off event as the Hurricanes boast of a strong top order that failed to fire in the season-opener. Matthew Wade has plenty of experience playing in the BBL and is capable of scoring big runs during the first few overs.
His opening partnership with Mitchell Owen will play an important role in shaping the Hurricanes’ total. The middle order is made up of Shai Hope and Ben McDermott, while all-rounders Tim David and Nikhil Chaudhary come lower down. What the team does lack is depth in their batting.
The Hurricanes’ pace-heavy bowling attack did a decent job but there weren’t many runs to defend. Chris Jordan, Riley Meredith, Nathan Ellis, and Billy Stanlake are likely to retain their spots, with Waqar Salamkheil joining in as the spinner.
The Perth Scorchers scored an easy victory over the Melbourne Stars in their opening fixture. They hope to keep the momentum and strengthen their position in the points table.
The Scorchers boast one of the strongest pace attacks in the league which is made up of Jhye Richardson, Jason Behrendorff, Andrew Tye, and Lance Morris. They picked up 6 wickets among themselves in the previous game and played an important role in keeping the opposition under pressure.
Richardson was in good form as he picked up 3 wickets for only 19 runs. Ashton Agar is the only specialist spinner who will be included in the playing XI but will have the support of Cooper Connolly and Ashton Turner. Connolly played a brilliant knock with the bat, scoring 64 runs, and picked up a wicket.
He will be the mainstay of the Scorchers’ middle order along with Matthew Hurst, Nick Hobson, and Turner. The opening pair will be made up of Finn Allen and Keaton Jennings.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at Hobart does help the fast bowlers early in the match thanks to the hard and flat surface. There will be some swing through the air as well. However, as the match progresses, batting becomes easier and the bowlers will have to be spot-on with their line and length. The team batting first will look to score around 180 runs at this venue.
The weather will remain cloudy with temperatures of under 20 degrees.
We are backing the Perth Scorchers to win this match. They have a strong squad at their disposal which is made up of some quality all-rounders. Also, the Scorchers have a strong pace attack that is likely to be effective in these conditions.
Bet on the Perth Scorchers to win.
