James Vince and Daniel Hughes are both in good form at the moment. The duo gave their team a strong start in the last match and we are expecting them to do so again in this match.
Josh Philippe is in fine form this season. He has scored 229 runs at an average of 25.44 runs and has scored at least 25 runs in 5 of his last 9 innings. We are backing him to play another good knock here.
The pitch at Carrara Oval isn’t the easiest to bat on. As both teams have some serious bowling firepower at their disposal, we are unlikely to see such a high-scoring over.
We have now reached the business end in the 13th edition of the BBL. The group stage has ended and we now have the 4 teams who have qualified for the playoffs. The Brisbane Heat and the Sydney Sixers finished as the top two teams and clash in the Qualifier on Friday. The winner of this match will get a direct entry to the finals, while the loser will face either Perth or Adelaide in the Challenger.
The Sydney Sixers have been the dominant team in the past head-to-head encounters. Out of the 19 such matches, the Sixers have won 13, while Brisbane has won 6.
This match can be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App or can be watched live on the Star Sports Network.
The Brisbane Heat were the most consistent team this season and were the first to book a place in the playoffs. They finished the group stage at the top of the points table.
It has been an all-round effort by Brisbane so far. Jimmy Pierson, who was playing his first match of the season on Saturday scored an impressive 42 and will look to give the team a brisk start alongside Josh Brown. The middle-order batting has stepped up on various occasions to push the team to a match-winning total.
Matt Renshaw, Nathan McSweeney, and Max Bryant are all capable batsmen who can score big runs. Paul Walter is a dependable all-rounder who has scored 93 runs and has also picked up 13 wickets. He will lead the pace attack alongside Xavier Bartlett, who has picked up 16 wickets and is the leading wicket-taker of the season.
Spencer Johnson and Michael Neser too seem to be peaking just at the right time. The spin attack consists of Matthew Kuhnemann and Mitchell Swepson, who have picked up 17 wickets between them.
The Sixers seemed to be struggling a bit mid-season, especially as two of its matches were washed out. However, their campaign gathered steam toward the end and a thrilling last-ball win over the Perth Scorchers ensured the team of a top-2 finish.
Daniel Hughes and James Vince gave the team a brisk start in the last match and will look to do so again here. Vince is the leading run-getter for the team, while Hughes is in good touch, scoring 2 half-centuries in his last 5 innings. The middle order consists of Jordan Silk, Jack Edwards, and Josh Philippe.
Moises Henriques has had a relatively quiet season with the bat but he played a match-winning knock of 47 runs against Perth and that should give his confidence a big boost. There are plenty of bowling options for the Sixers to work with.
Ben Dwarshuis is the leading wicket-taker with 11 wickets and is well-supported by Sean Abbott, Jackson Bird, Edwards, and Hayden Kerr, while Steve OKeefe and Todd Murphy will feature in the spin department.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The match will be played at the Carrara Oval in Queensland. The pitch here is well-balanced and we can expect a close contest between the bat and the ball. The average first-inning score on this ground is around 155. There is plenty of help on offer for the seamers as well as the spinners, provided they bowl a good line and length.
The weather here is likely to be overcast and there is a forecast of rain and thunder throughout the day, which may lead to delays and interruptions.
While both the teams have played well to finish as the top two teams on the table, we feel that the Brisbane Heat has a slight edge in this contest. The team has plenty of depth in its batting, and the bowling is especially strong. That said, the Sydney Sixers have played some excellent cricket over the past week and will give a good fight.
