Munro hasn’t been in the best of form this year. He has scored 23 runs at an average of 5.75. His highest score in the last 5 matches is 9 and we are expecting his poor form to continue.
The Gabba’s pitch provides the batsmen with plenty of opportunities to score runs. In each of the last 3 games played here, an individual has score more than 66 runs and we are expecting a similar outcome in this match as well.
Sydney Thunder will look to move to the top of the points table as it takes on the reigning champions, Brisbane Heat, in the ongoing Big Bash League. The two teams will face off on Monday at The Gabba.
The two teams have played 20 matches against each other. Brisbane has won 13 while Sydney Thunder has won 7.
This match will be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App and Star Sports Network.
Brisbane hasn’t been in the best of form over the last week. The team has lost 3 consecutive matches, and its latest fixture was washed out, forcing them to share points with Sydney Sixers. They are currently placed 5th on the points table.
Brisbane Heat hasn’t found a stable opening pair and has shuffled between Colin Munro, Tom Banton, and Jimmy Peirson in the opening slot. While Peirson has scored a half-century earlier in the series, Munro and Banton are both struggling at the moment and have an average of under 15 runs.
Matthew Renshaw, Max Bryant, and Nathan McSweeney have played a couple of good innings but have lacked consistency in the middle overs. Xavier Bartlett and Spencer Johnson continue to lead the attack with the new ball and will be supported by Will Prestwidge.
They have done a decent job so far. However, more will be expected from the spin duo of Mitchell Swepson and Matthew Kuhnemann.
Sydney Thunder has been among the most consistent teams this year, winning four of its five matches. It is second on the points table and a win here will take them to the top.
Thunder’s latest win came on Friday as they defeated the Perth Scorchers in a last-ball thriller. However, the win did come at a cost as two of the team’s key players, Cameron Bancroft and Daniel Sams, suffered a horrific collision while attempting a catch in the outfield.
With the injuries that both players have suffered, Bancroft is likely to miss the rest of the series, while Sams will be out for at least a week. They could be replaced in the playing XI by Hugh Weibgen and Olive Davies, who has recovered from the flu.
On the positive side, David Warner has played a couple of blistering knocks at the top of the order and will again look to give the team a brisk start. Sherfane Rutherford played a brilliant knock under pressure in the last match to guide his team to a memorable win.
The bowling unit will likely be unchanged with Wes Agar and Lockie Ferguson leading the pace attack and Chris Green featuring in the spin department.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at The Gabba is balanced. The seamers will enjoy the pace and bounce that the surface offers and the new ball moves around quite a lot. The batsmen must see off the new ball before they can start playing the shots. However, as the ball gets older, scoring runs will get easier. A score of around 160 is a par score on this ground.
The weather will remain clear with temperatures of around 25 degrees.
Brisbane hasn’t been in the best of forms this year and has struggled to perform, especially with the bat. Sydney Thunder has been far more consistent and we are backing them to continue with the winning streak.
Bet on Sydney Thunder to win.
