Matthew Short and D’Arcy Short make up a strong opening pair. The duo put up a 76-run partnership in the last match and have scored at least 17 runs in 2 of their last 3 outings. On the other hand, the Perth Scorchers’ highest opening partnership in the 4 matches is 6 runs.
Cooper Connolly is the leading run-scorer this season with an average of 45.25. He has scored at least 37 runs in 3 of his last 4 outings, including 2 half-centuries, and we are backing him to play well here.
The Adelaide Strikers will look to get back to winning ways as they host the Perth Scorchers for match number 17 in the ongoing BBL season. The two teams will clash at the Adelaide Oval on New Year’s Eve.
To date, the two teams have faced each other in 25 matches. The Perth Scorchers have won 13 matches while Adelaide have won 12.
This match will be live-streamed on the Disney+ Hotstar App and on the Star Sports Network.
The Adelaide Strikers are struggling this season. They have won only one of their four games so far, and they are currently placed seventh on the points table.
Their latest loss came against the Hobart Hurricanes in a high-scoring game on Friday. Matthew Short and D’Arcy Short gave the team a brisk start and have once again proved themselves as one of the strongest opening pairs in the league.
Jamie Overton has been consistent in the middle order and is among the top three run-scorers of the tournament. Chris Lynn hasn’t been in the best of forms while Alex Ross and Ollie Pope have been unable to convert their starts into big knocks.
Overton has also been excellent with the ball and is the leading wicket-taker for the team along with Lloyd Pope. Matthew Short and Henry Thornton have picked up 5 wickets each. However, the bowlers have been expensive and need to bowl a tighter line and length.
Like their counterparts, the Perth Scorchers have been rather inconsistent and have lost two matches out of four.
Matthew Hurst and Finn Allen have struggled at the top of the order and both are averaging under 15 runs. However, both of them are very talented and it is just a matter of time before they start playing well. Much will depend on Cooper Connolly and Ashton Turner in the middle order.
Connolly is the leading run-scorer of the tournament and has scored 2 half-centuries in 4 innings. Nick Hobson played an explosive knock in the last match and will be joined by Aaron Hardie lower down the order.
Coming to the bowling, Matthew Kelly joins Lance Morris, Jason Behrendorff, and Andrew Tye to make a fearsome pace attack while Ashton Agar will bowl during the middle overs.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The Adelaide Oval is traditionally a high-scoring venue. The pitch is rock-hard and offers excellent pace and bounce. While the new ball does move around a bit, the batsmen usually enjoy the upper hand and can play their shots with confidence. The team batting first will aim for the 200-run mark.
The weather will remain clear with temperatures of around 25 degrees.
Both teams have been inconsistent and will hope to put up a winning performance here. There is little separating the two teams at this point but we feel that Perth Scorchers have a slight edge due to a strong pace attack and a couple of solid all-rounders.
Bet on the Perth Scorchers to win.
