The bowlers will get plenty of help at this venue. Each of the 7 matches played here has seen 13 or more wickets fall and we expect that trend to continue.
As mentioned earlier, scoring runs at the Arnos Vale Ground isn’t the easiest. The venue has hosted 7 T20Is to date and none of the matches has seen a batsman score 65 or more runs. As both teams have a good bowling line-up, we are unlikely to see a big individual score.
Bangladesh’s month-long tour of the West Indies is entering its final leg now as both teams clash in a 3-match T20I series. The first match will be played Sunday at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown.
The two teams have faced each other in 16 matches to date. The West Indies won nine while Bangladesh won five. Two games ended without any result.
This match will be live-streamed on the FanCode App.
The West Indies was clinical in its performance during the ODI series and completed a clean sweep over Bangladesh. They hope to put up a similar performance in the shortest format as well.
The home team will be playing without two key players, Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford, as they will be honoring their BBL commitments. Their absence will leave a void in the middle order as the duo played a pivotal role with the bat during the ODI series.
The selectors have given a maiden T20I call-up to Keacy Carty, who has been impressive in the last couple of weeks. Johnson Charles makes a comeback in the squad after recovering from an injury. Brandon King and Evin Lewis might continue at the top of the order, while skipper Rovman Powell will play the role of a finisher.
Nicholas Pooran will be another batsman to watch out for, given his explosive ability. Seamer Terrance Hinds is likely to join Alzarri Joseph and Obed McCoy while Gudakesh Motie could be selected ahead of Akeal Hosein.
Bangladesh had an excellent record against the West Indies in the ODI format before this tour but they were completely outplayed in all departments. The team has had a few days to gather itself and will hope to gain an early advantage here.
Just like during the ODI series, Bangladesh is missing some of its key players. Mustafizur Rahman, Shakib Al-Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, and Rakibul Hasan are unavailable due to injuries or other problems. The team also continues to play without Najmul Hossain Shanto, who is injured, and Mahmudullah, who has retired from the format.
Litton Das will lead the team here. His form hasn’t been the best and will hope to get some runs under his belt in this match. Das will have the support of Soumya Sarkar, Tanzid Hasan, and Afif Hossain. Shamim Hossain makes a comeback as an all-rounder and will join Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mahedi Hasan in the middle order.
The pace department marks the return of Ripon Mondal and he will join ranks with Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib. Rishad Hossain and Nasum Ahmed are the two spinners available for selection.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.
The Arnos Vale Ground offers plenty of help to the bowlers and scoring runs here won’t be easy. The average first-inning score here is around 133 runs. The batsmen must take advantage of the new ball and score some runs during the Powerplay. As the ball gets older, it becomes difficult to play the big shots.
The weather will remain humid with temperatures of under 30 degrees.
West Indies has played well over the last few days and as they have retained most of their players from the ODI series, we expect them to continue playing well. Bangladesh on the other hand will be low on confidence and will find it difficult to bounce back. West Indies is also at its strongest in the T20 format with multiple match winners across their lineup.
