Sri Lanka is a much better Test team than Bangladesh, especially in home conditions
Bangladesh has an improved fast bowling attack but its batting remains prone to collapses
Sri Lanka has not lost a Test series to Bangladesh at home since 2017
First dismissal of the match to be Bowled
This is a bet slightly more for the brave than the conservative bettors. Pathum Nissanka was the first to depart in the side’s previous Test after being bowled by Nathan Lyon. Fellow opener Dimuth Karunaratne was also dismissed through a Bowled wicket of Nathan Lyon.
First ball of the match to be a dot ball
This should be a bit of a given for the first ball of a Test match. Sri Lanka started with a dot ball against Australia in their previous Test overall. Their opening over in that match featured five dot balls.

This Asian battle is likely to be a fierce contest between the batters and the spinners across both bowling lineups. The Sri Lankans are a hot outfit in their home conditions, particularly against Bangladesh. The tourists only have one Test victory over Sri Lanka ever.

Sri Lanka romping home to a Test victory over Bangladesh has been a tale as old as time. The home side has 20 Test wins to their opposition’s singular victory. In the previous Test series, Sri Lanka won both Tests by more than 190 runs.
Sri Lanka will play host to Bangladesh at Galle International Cricket Stadium from Tuesday, 17 June 2025 to Saturday, 21 June 2025. The match will be available for live-streaming in India on the Sony LIV app.

Pathum Nissanka and Oshada Fernando could start the new 2025 – 27 ICC World Test Championship cycle as Sri Lanka’s fixed opening pair. The two batters have more than 2000 Test runs between them. At numbers three and four, the experienced Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews remain critical to the lineup.
Chandimal hit a score of 74 runs in his previous Test. Mathews, approaching retirement after the Bangladesh Tests, continues to deliver. The Sri Lankan legend has a best Test score of 200 not out.
Captain Dhananjaya de Silva anchors the middle order with both bat and spin.
The Sri Lankan skipper has over 4000 Test runs. Kamindu Mendis has arguably been the best Sri Lankan Test batter over the past year. The left-handed batter has 857 runs in his last ten Test matches. The ever-reliable Kusal Mendis hit back-to-back half-century scores against Australia in the second Test.
Sri Lanka’s spin attack could feature Akila Dananjaya returning to the Test side after a four year absence. The off-spinner has four five-wicket hauls in Tests. Despite Sri Lanka’s two-nil loss to Australia, Jayasuriya finished as the third-highest wicket-taker in that series with nine wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the final Test.
The pace duo of Asitha Fernando and Kasun Rajitha should be exciting to watch with the new red ball. Fernando has 31 wickets in his past nine Tests. Rajitha recently took a five-wicket haul for Essex against Surrey.

Shadman Islam starred in Bangladesh’s recent Test against Zimbabwe. The team’s opening batter hit a match-winning century as one of his two Test centuries. Anamul Haque will open alongside Islam. He has more than 9000 First-Class runs. Mominul Haque has been a pillar in the top-order.
The left-hander has over 4500 Test runs. Najmul Hossain Shanto, as captain, and Mushfiqur Rahim bring experience. The duo has almost 8000 Test runs as a combination. Jaker Ali is additional depth to the batting lineup with four Test fifties.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz is the standout all rounder. Recently, he scored 104 not out and took five for 32 in Chattogram. He is currently one of the ICC's top-ranked Test all rounders, ranked at number two.
The frontline bowlers are Nayeem Hasan, Taijul Islam, Nahid Rana and Hasan Mahmud. Pacers Nahid Rana and Hasan Mahmud have over 50 Test wickets between them. Spinner Taijul Islam gave a reminder of his worth in spinning conditions when he took a six-wicket haul and three-wicket haul in the second Test against Zimbabwe.
Nayeem Hasan is another spinner who may be at his best in the later days of the Test. The off-spinner has three five-wicket hauls and one four-wicket haul in Tests.

Hot and dry conditions are typical of the subcontinent. The toss can usually be a deciding factor in Asian Test matches because of the deterioration of the pitch over five days. It should come as no surprise with either captain opting to bat first. The weather might make it seem like not the worst toss to lose though.
A typical Sri Lanka pitch would be expected to break up fairly quickly over the course of a Test match. The spinners are usually the biggest troublemakers for batters. The rain leading up to the match could bring the seamers into the game in the first few days. Sri Lanka scored 531 all out batting first against Bangladesh in their previous Test against them.
Weather conditions leading up to and including the start of the match are likely to feature light rain. The chances of rain throughout lie between the 20 and 30 percentages. Temperatures will be warm and extremely humid, nonetheless.
Sri Lanka have everything going for them. They will have home support and conditions to play with. Their record against their opposition is heavily in their favour too. They will be strong favourites in this Test match. Bangladesh could be walking into this with their tails between their legs with a head-to-head record that is heavily demoralizing with only one win against Sri Lanka in 26 Test matches.
Bet on Sri Lanka to win this match.
SL vs BAN win percentage stands at 58% in favor of SL.
