Australia To Win, 1.34
Australia Women are leading 2-0 despite being far from their best in this series
Alana King is a world-class leg-spinner and gives Australia Women an excellent attacking option
Australia Women have more depth in their side to recover from tough positions
This could be worth the bet because the Australian Women’s previous start to their batting innings. The opening batters only managed two runs off Lauren Bell, with neither of those runs coming from the bat.
The Australian all-rounder should be a safe bet because of her class. The right-handed batter has 291 runs in her last ten Women’s ODIs and three centuries in the format.
The Australians have proven their dominance in this Women’s ODI series so far having completed two consecutive victories. England Women still have a lot to play for with the Women’s Ashes still on the line. They will need to rebound quickly.
The English have tended to struggle in Women’s ODIs when they enter Australian shores. Before the start of the Women’s ODI series leg of this year’s Women’s Ashes, you would need to go all the way back to October 2017 to find the last time that England Women beat Australia Women in a Women’s ODI in Australia. The Australians whitewashed the English in their previous home Women’s ODI series against them.
This will be the third and final Women’s ODI of this series between Australia Women and England Women on Friday, 17 January 2025. The game will be hosted at Bellerive Oval, Hobart. This game will be available to India for TV broadcast and live-streaming on the Star Sports Network and Disney+ Hotstar app respectively.
Opening the batting will be young sensation Phoebe Litchfield with a fearless approach to the powerplay. Young Litchfield has two Women’s ODI centuries to add to six half-centuries. Alongside her, will walk captain and wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy as the leader and an explosive batter in short-format cricket.
Veteran all-rounder Ellyse Perry remains a pivotal figure to break the game wide open while batting or bowling. She hit 60 runs in the second Women’s ODI. Beth Mooney's consistency in the middle order makes her one of the most dependable batters in the world. The left-hander has over 2500 Women’s ODI runs.
Power-packed all-rounders Annabel Sutherland, Ashleigh Gardner and Tahlia McGrath add depth and versatility to an already powerful lineup in the three facets of the game. Sutherland has scored 348 runs in her last ten Women’s ODIs.
Leg-spinner Alana King will be a key weapon in the middle overs. She grabbed herself four wickets en-route to a player-of-the-match award in the previous match. The spinner is backed by a formidable pace attack comprising Megan Schutt, Darcie Brown and Kim Garth.
Schutt's precision and Brown's raw pace can trouble any batting lineup and Garth's experience adds variety to the seam department. Garth currently has form under her belt after scalping three wickets in Melbourne. Gardner and Schutt currently occupy second and third positions in the ICC Women’s ODI bowling rankings respectively.
Tammy Beaumont brings her wealth of experience at the top of the order to allow fellow opening batter Maia Bouchier to add her flair to the game. Bouchier has almost 500 runs in the 50-over format. Captain Heather Knight has more than 4000 Women’s ODI runs with two centuries and 26 half-centuries.
The team will rely on her for a big innings. The ever-reliable Nat Sciver-Brunt is one of the world's best all-rounders. She will need to show up in a big way to compete with the home side’s depth of all-rounders. Power-hitter Danni Wyatt-Hodge will look to add the finishing touches towards the middle and death overs.
Amy Jones will take charge of the field from behind the stumps with the wicketkeeping gloves. She adds depth to the batting lineup too. She top-scored for England Women in the second Women’s ODI with 47 unbeaten runs. Young Alice Capsey will play her shots to give her side a boost towards the end of the batting innings.
Sophie Ecclestone is the top-ranked bowler in the world for Women’s ODI cricket. England’s performance with the ball will largely lay on her shoulders. Ecclestone and Capsey were the key destroyers with the ball in the previous game after taking four and three wickets respectively.
Charlie Dean adds another spin option. The pace duo of Lauren Filer and Lauren Bell will loom to impose themselves against a dangerous opening batting pair from Australia Women. Lauren Bell added two wickets in the second Women’s ODI.
In both Women’s ODIs this series, the captains have elected to bowl first. That may be true for a third time in a row with the captains wanting to bowl first again.
There may be a slight bit of moisture in the pitch from any small amount of rain if there is. The pitch in Hobart may follow what you would expect of a traditional Australian pitch with plenty of bounce on offer for the bowlers.
The seamers could exploit the first powerplay with the new ball if the ball nips around. Batters may need to focus on rotating the strike to begin with before they think about bludgeoning the ball to the boundary in the second half of the innings. The Australian Women were bowled out for 180 in their previous game.
Matchday weather in Hobart looks largely promising with conditions expected to be partly cloudy, moderately warm and very humid. They key issue may be the 20 percent chance of rain, but that may only be for a short spell.
England Women have shown signs that they can compete with the strong outfit that is the green and gold of Australia, but they will need a much more rounded performance to salvage something from the final Women’s ODI of the series. The home team will just need more of the same after finding their rhythm with performances coming from numerous different players in the squad. The hosts will be firm favourites.
Bet on Australia Women to win this match.
