Afghanistan is the newest Test cricketing nation (along with Ireland) and has very limited experience in this format. In fact, this Test series against Zimbabwe will be the first that it has ever played against it. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, has been playing Test cricket for much longer.

Theoretically, Zimbabwe should have a much better established cricketing structure, and the experience of having played Test cricket for so many years should have made it the favorite to win. In reality, that is nowhere close to being the case.

Political turmoil destroyed the first-class cricket setup in Zimbabwe and the team has hardly played any Test cricket of note in the last ten years. This is why Afghanistan, which basically does not have a home ground, is going to go into this series much more likely to win.

Winning in Test cricket requires teams to be able to pick up 20 wickets and that is where Afghanistan has a massive advantage. This series might be a low-scoring one but we do think a result is likely in each of the matches.

Unless Zimbabwe is able to unearth some world-class cricketing talent in the days leading up to this series, we think Afghanistan is going to add two more Test victories to its history.
