Three of the four innings in the series have resulted in the teams being bowled out inside their 50 overs. Conditions would be expected to be tougher for batting on a pitch that has already been used for the first two games. Have a go with this bet.
Afghanistan has a powerful and extended batting lineup that knows how to send the ball sailing into the stands. In both ODIs in the series Afghanistan have topped the boundary count. They could do so again and may be worth the bet.
Both teams have made enormous strides in ODI cricket over the years. Afghanistan have emerged as a top white-ball cricket nation recently, whereas Bangladesh may be finding their feet again after a dip in the format. Both nations bring some of the most passionate fans in world cricket and they could be in for a treat with a thrilling final ODI on the cards. The toss will be vital.
Both teams will feel much more comfortable batting first and scrapping to a win in the second innings with the ball.
The record over the past five ODIs is heavily in favour of Bangladesh with a record of four wins to Afghanistan’s one win. Bangladesh also won the most recent encounter. Both teams have won three of their last five ODIs. The toss could be a bigger factor than head-to-head record.
The third and final ODI of an Afghanistan versus Bangladesh series which is currently one-one will be live streamed on the FanCode App for Indian viewership.
Afghanistan’s lineup is likely to be the perfect blend of a core group of players who have been pivotal to their growth in ODI cricket and some fresh new faces from the next generation of Afghan talent.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz, with two ODI hundreds this year with the bat, and Rahmat Shah with 52 runs in the second ODI provide stability at the top. Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi will need to show his leadership and calm presence in the middle-order. Experienced all-rounders Mohammad Nabi and Gulbadin Naib extend the batting lineup and give Afghanistan power-hitting in the death overs. They are also key components of the bowling attack.
The bowling attack will largely be centred around the leg-spin of Rashid Khan. His class came through with commendable figures of two for 32 in ten overs in the last outing. Fazalhaq Farooqi had a forgettable game in game two, but will trouble the Bangladeshi opening batters if there is swing on offer.
Allah Ghazanfar stunned the Bangladeshi batters with his six wickets in the opening ODI. Young spinner Nangeyalia Kharote seeks to make an impact after taking three wickets in his last game.
Afghanistan won their previous ODI series two-one against South Africa. They have a brilliant opportunity ahead of them to win another.
Tanzid Hasan and Soumya Sarkar form an aggressive opening pair, but with different levels of experience. Najmul Hossain Shanto follows them in the order. He is crucial as a top-order batter fresh from a player-of-the-match 76 runs and in the field as captain.
Shanto also top-scored for Bangladesh with 47 runs in game one. Middle-order batters Towhid Hridoy and Mahmudullah Riyad provide explosivity in the middle to death overs.
The bowling attack boasts variety. Mehidy Hasan Miraz offers all-round skills as a solid batter and most important spinner. Nasum Ahmed's left-arm spin complements him by turning the ball away from the right-hander. He took three wickets in the second ODI.
Taskin Ahmed is an experienced right-arm pacer whose skiddy action may be uncomfortable to face, specifically with the new ball. Shoriful Islam and Mustafizur Rahman add energy to the pace attack, while also making the right-handed batters’ lives difficult because of the left-arm angle. Between Ahmed and Rahman, they took eight of the ten wickets in the first ODI.
The toss has been decisive in both of the opening two ODIs. The team batting first has won each of the two games. The captains may be inclined to bat first to follow the trend of the results and because of the pitch being a used surface.
The first two ODIs showed how important it is to carry on with the bat after getting yourself set. This has been a lower-scoring ground with the first innings totals of 235 all out and 252 for seven. Both second innings totals have been below 190 and the teams were bowled out. Spin has played an important role, particularly on this slower type of pitch.
The pitch would only be expected to get lower and slower after being used in the first two ODIs as well.
Weather conditions will be similar to the previous two games with temperatures in excess of 30 degrees Celsius. Rain shouldn’t be an issue at only a one percent chance of rain.
Afghanistan and Bangladesh are set to face off in the third ODI in a series which is currently level with each team winning one match. Afghanistan secured a 92-run win in the first ODI and Bangladesh won the second ODI by 68 runs. Both teams will have the firepower to fight back after a loss.
Afghanistan may edge ahead as favourites by playing on conditions similar to home turf, but Bangladesh will be confident if some of their exciting talents are off to their explosive best. The first two games also highlighted the importance of the toss. Both teams who chose to bat first ended up winning.
