The Chennai Brave hasn’t been able to get a good start throughout the season. They have been able to cross the 16-run mark before the fall of 1st wicket just once in the last 5 games and looking at the form of the top two batsmen, it is unlikely that they will put up a good partnership.
Josh Brown is having a poor run this year and has an average of just 7 runs in 4 innings and his top score in those 4 matches is 13. Therefore, we think that he will struggle to get going.
The Delhi Bulls will look to get back to winning ways as they face the Chennai Brave Jaguars on Thursday. The match will be played at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
The two teams have faced each other in 4 matches to date, with the Bulls winning each one of them.
This match will be live-streamed on the FanCode App.
The Delhi Bulls haven’t been in the best of forms this year, managing to win only 1 of the 4 matches it has played so far. It is currently 8th on the points table and a loss here could considerably diminish its chances of making it to the playoffs.
Barring Rovman Powell, the batting from the Delhi Bulls has been pretty ordinary. Powell is the only batsman who has scored a half-century for the team and is the leading run-scorer for them. Tom Banton and Adam Lyth are likely to begin the proceedings with the bat and will hope to give the team a strong start.
The Bulls need at least one of them to play till the halfway mark. The middle order has some all-rounders like Shadab Khan and Tim David but the Delhi Bulls look a bit short when it comes to depth in batting.
There were plenty of expectations from Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen ul Haq but they are yet to deliver with the ball. Shahid Bhutta is the leading wicket-taker for the team with 7 wickets while the spin department is almost nonexistent.
The Chennai Brave are still searching for their first win of the season. They are currently last on the points table and have already been eliminated from the race to the playoffs. Nevertheless, they still have pride to play for.
Despite having some big names in the team, the batting unit has failed to fire and that is one of the primary reasons for the team’s poor run. Rassie van der Dussen and Josh Brown are likely to open the batting for Chennai and hope to give them a strong start.
While Dussen has got some good starts, Brown is averaging just 7 runs in the 4 innings he has played. Similarly, the likes of Dan Lawrence, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Thisara Perera, and Nick Hobson have struggled quite a bit.
The bowlers have been mediocre as well. Nuwan Thushara is the leading wicket-taker for the team with 5 wickets but has received little support from the other seamers like Muhammad Ali Khan, G Sanketh, and Zubair Khan. The team’s spinners have struggled as well.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium is balanced and we have seen some engaging contests between the bat and the ball. While a par score on this ground is around 110, the bowlers can expect a lot of help if they hit the right areas.
The spinners who pitch in the rough areas have been able to generate plenty of turn. The weather will be clear with temperatures of around 27 degrees.
The Chennai Brave have struggled throughout this season and will find it difficult to bounce back. While Delhi themselves aren’t in the best of forms, they have played better cricket and could end up on top.
