The Sunrisers Hyderabad are already out of the race for the playoffs. While they managed to retain most of the players who took them to the finals last season, they haven’t been able to perform with the same level of intensity and aggression this year, and that has weighed down on the team.
On the other side are the Lucknow Super Giants, who are hanging by the slimmest of margins. They need to win each of their upcoming matches, including this one, if they want to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Confirmation regarding the availability of some overseas players is being awaited.
The Ekana Stadium is likely to present a balanced surface that will offer something for both the batsmen and the bowlers. The new ball will swing a bit, and the bowlers who hit the deck are likely to get some movement off the seam as well. The batsmen need to treat the ball on its merits and will have to time the ball well. The surface does get better to play the shots as the match goes on, but the spinners are likely to get some turn during the second half.
There is no forecast for rain, and the weather is likely to be warm and slightly humid.
There are two quality wicket-keepers available for selection in this match, and we are choosing both for our team. Heinrich Klaasen and Nicholas Pooran have both played well, and we are backing them to continue scoring the big shots.
With Travis Head likely to be unavailable for this match, we are going with Mitchell Marsh, Ayush Badoni, and Aniket Verma here.
Abhishek Sharma and Aiden Markram are no-brainers in this category. We are also selecting Kamindu Mendis, as he has shown sparks of brilliance in his limited time in this tournament.
As all three all-rounders we have picked up are slower bowlers, we have selected Pat Cummins and Harshal Patel to lead our new-ball attack. We are also opting for Digvesh Rathi as he has been consistent throughout the season.
We are selecting Nicholas Pooran as the captain of our team. While he hasn’t been in the best of form of late, Pooran remains one of the top run-scorers of the tournament, and given his ability to play the big shots, he can earn plenty of points in this match.
Abhishek Sharma is the vice-captain of our team. He is the leading run-scorer for the Sunrisers this season and has been pretty consistent at the top of the order. He has a good record against Lucknow and could play a big knock here.
As the pitch at the Ekana Stadium is usually balanced, we have tried to select a team that has equal weightage of both the batsmen and the bowlers. We have also opted for 3 quality all-rounders who not only add depth to the batting but are also good bowlers who can earn points throughout the match.
Abhishek Sharma has 577 points in the last 5 matches at an average of 115 points per game
Nicholas Pooran (410), Mitchell Marsh (378), Aiden Markram (348)
Harshal Patel (14), Pat Cummins (13), Shardul Thakur (12)
Nicholas Pooran (34), Mitchell Marsh (20), Abhishek Sharma (17)
Nicholas Pooran (200.98), Abdul Samad (186.04), Abhishek Sharma (180.45)
Jaydev Unadkat (6.94), Digvesh Rathi (8.09), Kamindu Mendis (8.57)
