England’s openers and middle-order batting depth, together with their bowling control, make them clear favourites in Cardiff. With four of the top six batters all hitting half-centuries in the first ODI, they’ll be tough to beat.
The West Indies have the individual talent, but their inconsistencies are likely to cost them again. They suffered at the hands of an English batting lineup which put up 400 for eight against them in Birmingham.

Jamie Overton initially went off the field in the first ODI. He should be good for the second ODI. England have nobody else injured in their current squad. The West Indies have nobody injured on their radar
The seamers should have the door open for early wickets with conditions being partly cloudy. You may not want to rule out any rain at 15 percent chance either.
A typical ODI batting pitch in England and Wales will flatten out as the match goes on. That may be the likely outcome in Cardiff. England’s attacking tempo with the bat and conditions which suit free-scoring runs could mean that a score over 300 is easily on the cards.
Jamie Smith showed his firepower after ending with a strike rate over 150 in his first innings as an ODI opener. Shai Hope would be the better decision if you want someone consistent in your team. He has an amazing 17 ODI centuries with 27 ODI half-centuries.
Ben Duckett loves a bat in England. The left-handed opening batter has over 500 ODI runs in England with two centuries and three half-centuries. Jacob Bethell has transitioned to ODI cricket quickly after moving to 300 ODI runs with three half-centuries in only nine ODIs. Keacy Carty has been superb in ODIs. The West Indian batter has 679 runs in his past ten ODI matches. He averages over 80 with a strike rate just over 100 in that time.
Joe Root is racing along in scoring ODI runs. He is currently on just under 7000 ODI runs, while averaging just under 50. Jamie Overton has a solid List A platform to work from with 64 wickets and three four-wicket hauls. Justin Greaves has just over 200 runs and four wickets in ODIs. His brief ODI career is still a work in progress.
Saqib Mahmood moved to 20 ODI wickets after he grabbed three in the first ODI against West Indies. The pacer has taken an ODI four-wicket haul before. Leg-spinner Adil Rashid took some tap against the hard-hitting West Indians. He still managed two wickets in the game. 23-year-old pacer Jayden Seales has seven wickets in his past two ODI appearances.
Alzarri Joseph is a genuine wicket-taker even when damage is happening around him. He took two wickets in the previous ODI match.
Ben Duckett’s ODIyear in 2025 has been nothing short of extraordinary. With 418 runs in seven innings, a batting average of just under 60 and strike rate of just under 120, he has a stronghold over the format this year. He has continued his ICC Champions Trophy form.
Joe Root is a top performer across formats. He suits ODI cricket for the way he times his innings from rotating strike to counter-punching with boundaries. The iconic English batter has over 20000 runs in international cricket.
With the seamers likely to be the better choice of bowlers for these conditions, consider looking to the England pace bowlers after running through the West Indian batters in the previous match. The West Indians do have quality pacers themselves.
When almost half of your batting lineup has milestones behind them after just one game, it would be safe to assume that a number of them would make your side immediately. Joe Root may be a smart option for someone who can score big while building an innings as opposed to most English batters who will counter-attack from the start.
Jacob Bethell with 199 Dream11 fantasy points steals the show here. Jayden Seales with 189 Dream11 fantasy points is not far behind
Jacob Bethell put on an outstanding 82 runs in the first ODI. Ben Duckett, Harry Brook and Joe Root were the others to cross the 50-run mark
Despite being expensive, Jayden Seales has four wickets. Jamie Overton and Saqib Mahmood both have three wickets
Jacob Bethell with five sixes rules the roost. Jayden Seales and Harry Brook, each with three sixes, have also done damage
Jayden Seales with 207.14 is far and away by a comfortable distance. Gudakesh Motie, Will Jacks, Jacob Bethell and Jamie Smith all have strike rates higher than 150
Jamie Overton and Saqib Mahmood were the best two bowlers where economies are concerned. Their economies are 4.13 and 4.57 respectively. Gudakesh Motie is the other bowler under six runs per over
