The West Indies are in sixth position in the International Cricket Council's men's T20I team rankings. Papua New Guinea are in 20th position. That's a significant gulf, but perhaps it won't be that evident in this match. Major ICC tournaments are renowned as a platform for underdogs to beat cricketing giants.

The Windies will go into this match on the back of a three-nil T20I series win over South Africa. They did not have their Indian Premier League stars at the time. Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Andre Russell and others have since returned to the national squad, making the tournament co-hosts that much more powerful.

In terms of world-class all-rouders, Russell is well worth getting into your Dream11 team selection. He recently won the IPL title with the Kolkata Knight Riders and was instrumental with the ball throughout. Russell is capable of winning contests with the bat almost singlehandedly, too.

Understandably, your team is probably going to have far more Windies players in it than those from PNG. But if you are going to find space for a PNG player, make it for Assad Vala. He is their captain again, after leading them at the 2021 T20 World Cup as well. Vala is a solid batter toward the top of the order.

Obed McCoy is another reliable choice. The fast bowler replaced the injured Jason Holder in the Windies squad for this tournament recently. McCoy bowls with good accuracy and pace - and has taken five wickets in his last three T20I appearances. Conditions in Guyana should suit him.

Conditions at Providence Stadium might also dictate the selection of two spinners. Akeal Hosein should be your first. He is a fine talent and gets extra bounce and spin. As a left-armer, his ability to turn the ball away from PNG's right-handers will be a big tactic for the hosts.
