Sydney Thunder has had a terrible run this season. With just 1 win in 6 matches, the team is languishing in the 7th place on the points table. If the Thunder lose this match, the chances of them qualifying for the playoffs become extremely slim.

Despite the poor run, there have been a few silver linings for Sydney Thunder. Cameron Bancroft has been pretty consistent in the opening slot and has scored 202 runs at an average of 33.66. The team will need another big inning from him if they want a good start.

Daniel Sams has been another strong performer for the team. He is the leading wicket-taker of this season with 11 wickets and has also scored 90 runs at a strike rate of 125.00. However, the same cannot be said about the other players of the squad. Alex Hales, Oliver Davies, Alex Ross, and Jason Sangha have been rather inconsistent. Similarly, the swashbuckling batsman Tom Kohler-Cadmore has managed to score just 4 runs in his 2 innings.

Coming to the bowling, none of the seamers have been able to support Sams from the other end. Nathan McAndrew, Liam Hatcher, and Gurinder Sandhu have managed to pick up just 4 wickets between them. Similarly, the spin bowling has been a hit or a miss.

The Perth Scorchers were coasting along nicely until they were handed their first defeat of the season by the Adelaide Strikers on Friday. Nevertheless, the team is currently 2nd on the points table and with 4 more matches to play, are well poised to make it to the playoffs.

As was the case in the previous season, Aaron Hardie is the top performer with the bat for the Scorchers. He has scored 251 runs so far and is among the top 3 run-getters of the season. He, along with Laurie Evans and Josh Inglis makes up for a strong middle order. Zak Crawley has got a couple of good starts in the opening slot but is yet to play a big inning.

The same is the case for his opening partner, Sam Whiteman. Cooper Connolly played a memorable cameo in the finals of the previous season but has been unable to replicate that success this time around. The Perth Scorchers have one of the strongest seam attacks in the League and will bank on it to deliver early breakthroughs in the match.

Lance Morris and Jason Behrendorff are the leading wicket-takers with 9 wickets each, while Jhye Richardson and Andrew Tye have picked up 12 wickets between them. The team is however a bit lacking when it comes to spin.
