HBH vs SYD Match Preview

Hobart Hurricanes have made some changes to their squad while retaining key players such as Nathan Ellis, Tim David, Matthew McDermott, and Matthew Wade. In order to strengthen their team, they have introduced new faces like Sam Hain and Corey Anderson.

Hain is a reliable middle-order batsman, while Anderson will partner with Caleb Jewell as a finisher. With the addition of power hitters like Wade and David, the Hurricanes now possess a formidable batting line-up. Furthermore, their seam attack, consisting of Ellis and Meredith, was already strong.

To bolster it further, they have brought in Chris Jordan and Billy Stanlake, the latter joining from Melbourne Stars. Patrick Dooley, one of the top wicket-takers from the previous season, will be supported by Peter Hatzoglou in the spin department.

Steve Smith showcased his exceptional form for the Sydney Sixers, amassing an impressive 61 runs from a mere 42 deliveries, setting the team off to a rapid start. However, his availability for the next month seems doubtful due to the upcoming Test series against Pakistan. In such circumstances, it is highly probable that Josh Philippe will be accompanied by Kurtis Patterson at the top of the batting order.

The middle order comprises of skilled batsmen such as James Vince, Moises Henriques, and Jordan Silk, all of whom possess the ability to strike the ball cleanly. The Sixers displayed a disciplined bowling performance in their initial match, with Ben Dwarshuis emerging as the leading wicket-taker, claiming 3 wickets. Additionally, Sean Abbott and Jackson Bird provided valuable support by each taking a wicket.

Tom Curran and Jack Edwards will provide further support in the seam department. However, the spin unit appears to be relatively weak, with Steve O’Keefe being the sole specialist spinner in the squad.

Weather Report

The weather at Launceston is likely to be clear for the most part, with temperatures of around 20 degrees Celsius.

Pitch Report

The pitch at the NTCA ground is excellent to bat on. While not many BBL matches are played here, the average first-inning score in the two WBBL matches played this year is 180. There is plenty of space and bounce on offer and the batsmen will be able to play their shots easily. However, the pitch does become a bit two-paced in the second half, helping the spinners.

Notable stats
