The defending champions are having a terrible time in this edition as England has won 1 of the 6 matches played so far. As a result, they are languishing at the bottom of the points table and are on the verge of getting eliminated. 
While the team has failed to perform on all fronts, the biggest disappointment came from the batsmen.

Since the 2019 edition, the English batsmen have adopted an aggressive approach irrespective of the format and reaped plenty of benefits. However, all that gas counted for nothing in this tournament as most of them have failed to make an impact.

Dawid Malan is the team’s top batsman despite scoring an aggregate of just 236 runs, which speaks volumes about the form of some of the senior players including Jos Buttler, Joe Root, and Johnny Bairstow. Ben Stokes and Liam Livingstone too have struggled to score runs in the middle order.

It is a similar story with the bowlers. Mark Wood and Chris Woakes have both failed to make an impact. Adil Rashid is the leading wicket-taker with 8 scalps, while David Willey is the most impressive seamer with 5 wickets.
Australia started off sedately with back-to-back losses against India and South Africa. However, the team has gradually picked up steam and is now on a 4-match winning streak. A win in this match will all but guarantee them a place in the knockouts.

David Warner has been indomitable in his recent outings, smashing 2 centuries and a half-century in his last 3 outings. Travis Head, who came back from an injury in the last match, scored a brilliant century and looks in fine touch. Australia’s batting has taken a couple of blows before the start of this match as Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell will miss this game.

This means Steve Smith will be back in the number 3 slot, and Marcus Stoinis and Cameron Green will be the key players in the middle order. Smith hasn’t been at his best, scoring just 1 half-century in his 6 innings and it is a similar case with Labuschagne. However, the contest against fierce rivals will likely bring out the best in them.

Adam Zampa has been excellent with the ball, picking up 16 wickets so far. He will once again be the key bowler for Australia. The seamers have done a decent job with Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins picking up 8 wickets each, while Mitchell Starc has 7.
