The opening batsmen, Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, will be aiming to provide Afghanistan with a formidable start. Zadran, in particular, has been in excellent form, having scored a rapid half-century in the previous match against Afghanistan. The dynamic opening duo will be complemented by the more seasoned middle order, comprising of Hashmatullah Shahidi, Rahmat Shah, and Najibullah Zadran.

The all-rounders, Mohammad Nabi, Karim Janat, and Gulbadin Naib, possess the ability to be highly destructive with the bat on their day. However, Afghanistan's bowling attack remains a weak point. While Gulbadin and Fazalhaq Farooqi are competent seamers, they lack consistency in terms of taking wickets.

Matheesha Pathirana was especially impressive, picking up 4 wickets for just 32 runs. Kasun Rajitha supported him well from the other end. While he went wicketless, Rajitha did manage to dry up the runs to put the opposition batsmen under pressure.

The spinners were right on the money with line and length and the team will expect a similar performance from them.

There are some improvements that Sri Lanka would like to make ahead of this crucial encounter. At least one of the top-order batsmen, Pathum Nissanka, Dimuth Karunaratne, or Kusal Mendis will need to play a big inning.

Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka were in good touch, smashing individual half-centuries and will play an important role in the middle order, while Dhananjaya de Silva and Shanaka will look to give a late flourish with the bat.
