CSK vs MI is one of the most awaited clashes in the Indian Premier League. They both are among the most successful franchises in the league and enjoy a huge and loyal fan base. This year, the fans will be entertained with not one, but two El Clasico games, the first of which will take place in Chennai at the MA Chidamabaram Stadium on Sunday.
Both, CSK and MI didn’t have the best of outings last season as they failed to make it to the playoffs. Nevertheless, both teams have made quite a few changes to their squad and will look to get a positive start this time around.

Jasprit Bumrah is unavailable for this match due to an injury. Hardik Pandya is also set to miss this match due to a one-match suspension that he earned at the end of the last edition.
The pitch at the Chepauk stadium is usually balanced and offers excellent contest between the bat and the ball. The new ball helps the seamers while the spinners will come into action once the ball gets older. The average first-inning score here last season was around 170. That means one should pick a balanced side giving equal weightage to the bowlers and batsmen, while including as many all-rounders as one can.
The weather in Chennai on Sunday will remain warm and humid. There might be some dew on the ground during the second innings.
There are two main options here in MS Dhoni and Ryan Rickleton. While Dhoni has played plenty of good knocks, he often comes very much towards the end of an innings and has limited opportunities to score. Rickleton on the other hand is likely to open for MI.
While this is his first season in the IPL, he has an excellent record in SA20 and could play an important role.
There are plenty of options to choose here. Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma, and Ruturaj Gaikwad have excellent record in the IPL. Rachin Ravindra has played well in the recent Champions Trophy and could continue playing well.
There is a chance that the pitch at Chepauk will slow down as the match progresses. Choosing top-order players is probably the way to go here.
Thanks to the balanced surface in Chennai, you should pick as many all-rounders in their team as they can. Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin are automatic choices, while Sam Curran could be an X factor.
Since Jasprit Bumrah is unavailable, you should pick carefully. Matheesha Pathirana has bowled well in patches but could be expensive. Trent Boult could be another good choice here. Wicket-taking is very highly rewarded in Dream11 so we want to pick bowlers that make breakthroughs even if they are a bit expensive.
We are picking Ruturaj Gaikwad as our captain here as he had an excellent outing last season. Gaikwad scored 583 runs at an average of 53 and a strike rate of over 140.
We are tempted to pick and all-rounder for this post and what better choice than Ravindra Jadeja. He is an excellent spinner who can play the big shots. His electric presence on the field is a big bonus as well.
CSK vs MI has been one of the most thrilling encounters in the history of IPL and always brings out the best from both sides. However, the nature of the pitch in Chennai can make it challenging to pick up a perfect side and that is why we are putting emphasis on picking up quality all-rounders.
R Ashwin (470), R Rickelton (454), S Curran (449)
R Sharma (417), T Varma (416), R Gaikwad (413)
M Pathirana picked up 13 wickets in IPL 2024
S Dube (28), R Sharma (23), and T Varma (19) in IPL 2024
MS Dhoni batted low down the order but struck at a strike rate of 220.54 in the previous season
M Pathirana had an economy rate of 7.68 inn IPL 2024
